Back in April I got a letter saying I owed a fantastic sum of money which they added over $400 more in their October letter. I had requested a proof of debt which this pack of thieves haven't responded to. Since I don't recognize the debt and they haven't responded with proof of debt, plus from what I read on Ripoff Report, I'm reporting Portfolio Recovery Associates to the Post Office and the FTC for fraud.

Since a collection agency gets a certain amount of debt to collect on which is charged off by the original creditor/collection agency, is it legal for the third-party collection agency to keep adding on additional charges?

As an aside I got contacted a while ago by Associated Recovery Systems that shares the same PO Box with Portfolio. I welcome all comments.
