I got Assurance wireless as an alternative to a so-called "Lifeline" beneift for low-income people to get a free cell phone. I got rid of my landline because you can only receive ONE lifeline account. They give you 250 minutes and 250 texts which you blow through in no time; no way have I spent that many minutes on the phone. Then I run out of minutes, and twice now I have topped up for $10, for a total of $20. First it showed up on the phone, then disappeared. I cannot make calls because they say I am out of minutes, then I can't even call them because I have NO minutes. They are a RIP off preying on low income, elderly!!!

September 2013 i called up and told he girl I wanted 1000 minutes for $20 she said okay and gave me 750 minutes only she told me one thing and did another, this month i paid $32.63 for unlimited vm and she said okay, she came back and said she could only give me 750 minutes i asked her if she only took $20 from my cc she said yes, my cc company says she took $32.63 I asked for my $10 to be refunded back to my a/c and she it has been credited but it's not there, She told me one thing and gave me another. In addition, my 750 minutes was reduced down o 500 minutes after making only 60 minutes worth of calls, one of your reps said after the ticket was generated that I'm not getting my money or my minutes. My $10 plus tax has yet to be given back to me.

Yes Lifeline..

I am not debating the need for a "Lifeline" Service on a Landline. The issue here is that you are getting the "Lifeline" service on a CELL PHONE. Yet you don't seem to be making that connection. You don't think that you are using this "lifeline" benefit. If that is the case why did you have to suspend your "Lifeline" on your landline phone? Ummm, perhaps that is something to think about.
Next, as to the money "disapearing". As mentioned it probably didn't disapear..you probably used it or let them expire. With the $10 cards you are not on any of their packages and so are paying $0.10/per minute for any voice messages. Well with $10 that is only 100 minutes(200 for 2 cards). Also, unknown of how long you had the amount on your account but they also expire after 45 days. Of course if you still think that they stole your minutes, and you obviously have a computer have you logged into your account? Does it show your usage history? If so does it match with what you think?

No Lifeline!

You whoever responded to this don't have a clue obviously of what it's like to be disabled and so poor you cannot afford a phone! The government cracked down on the Lifeline benefit, so if you get this cell service you do NOT have the Lifeline benefit on a landline and the cost of a phone without this benefit is out of my budget range. You are an idiot, so don't tell ME about this!! Iamnot talkingabout not blowingthrough 250minutes.I am talking aboutputtingmoney on itonlyto have that money dissapear.

So you are complaining about getting FREE Cell Phone service? If you don't like it why not go back to *gasp* a regular landline. "Lifeline" service was supposed to be a way for people who could not afford regular service to have a way of communication in an EMERGENCY, it is NOT supposed to be your daily phone service.
Now 250 minutes is less than 10 minutes a day, actually in a 30 day month it works out to just a little over 8 minutes per day. But it can go fast. For example if you talk to someone for 30 minutes once a week and then use your phone another 5 minutes 3 times a week you have already "blown through" a majority of your minutes. Not to mention that like just about every other carrier they round up your useage. So if you were on the phone for 1 minute and 2 seconds or 1 minute and 59 seconds..you get charged for the same 2 minutes.
So yes..it is very possible that you have spent that many minutes on the phone.
I will bet that your phone has a usage counter that you can monitor to see how many minutes you are actually using, and I bet that you will be surprised at the results. Where if you find you are using a lot they have monthly plans you can add to get more minutes, and they cap it at $30/month for unlimited talk/text/web. So instead of complaing you better be thanking the taxpayers and other phone users who instead of being given a cell phone are in addition to supporting your free cell phone are having to pay for their phones, and in order to get the same unlimited deals have to pay anywhere from $50-$100+ depending on their carrier.
