Banfield Pet Hospital Fraud Alert: Deceptive Practices in Wellness Plan Merrillville Indiana
Banfield really pushes their wellness plan on every client, and will push a dental cleaning for your pet. I've seen them tell several customers, including myself, that my pet needed a dental plan, but just sign up for the basic wellness plan, and at any time I could upgrade to a plan that includes one dental cleaning per year for only $10 more. That is what they tell everyone verbatim. So, I signed up for the basic plan, which cost over $350 for the year. About six months into the plan, I stated I was ready to have the dental cleaning for my dog, and they stated it would cost $286 to upgrade. What happened to the $10/mo. They then stated that I would have to sign up for a new year and new plan right at that point. I asked how much a cleaning would be, and I was told $205. I would have saved a ton of money by not doing the wellness plan, which all the did was give my dog a bunch of vaccines, which some were totally unnecessary, and cheaper to go elsewhere. Everything was an upsell. They wouldn't even trim my dogs nails without trying to charge an extra $12. What the heck was the plan for?
That is not my only issue. The service has been pathetic. I asked on three occasions to have a cyst on my dogs leg drained. They kept saying to just leave it alone. Another upsell btw. I was willing to pay to have it drained or removed, but they didn't seem to want to do it. The cyst was growing, and at his six month check, I mentioned it was growing, and they still refused to do anything about it. I was furious, and took him to another hospital that cared, and it was removed immediately. Also, I was told I had an early morning appointment for his six month check, and that was all I was told. When I got to the clinic, they told me I had to leave him there, because they were not sure when they could get to it. This was never mentioned ahead of time upon making the appointment. I figured I could have him treated, and then leave. When I was there, they told me to come back around 1-2 p.m. to pick him up. I didn't hear anything, and called just before 2 p.m., and was told to pick him up at 4:30. How abusive. The poor little guy traumatized in a cage all
I told them how displeased I had been with the service in the morning, and I was told a manager would call me. I never received a call, and when I went there at 4:30 the manager just avoided me. I tried sending emails to corporate, and got nowhere. All I was told after the third email, was to call the customer service number. When I called the customer service number, it was useless. They still kept making mistakes, just like in the office, asking me the same questions repeatedly, when I already answered, such as name, address, etc. The kept screwing up my dogs name and my name in and out of the office, even after correcting them countless times. Customer service did absolutely nothing for me.
All this did was waste my time, and a lot of money. I urge you to not go to Banfield, if you know what is good for your pet!!!!!!!!!! I could give so many more examples of their incompetence, but for time sake will not.
