I have been unemployed and tried to stop automated debits to my account. The most eggregious of them was a dating site that claimed to not receive my cancellation call while cutting off access to my account after I had made that call (Jdate). In any event it caused my bank account to become overdrawn as did trying to straighten out my Itunes account with the 99 cent debit to account that has cause $35.00 per incident and $35.00 per day for 7 days as long as the account is overdrawn costing me hundreds of dollars at a time I can least afford it. a 99 cent account correction to update my free apps and straighten out my Itunes account has cost me $235.00 so far. Not to mention Jdate. The Bank will not budge on refunsinfg any of the charges and I my unemployment has been paused for a month till the house made up their minds on extending tier 4. Either way the unempluyed are getting screwed out of the funds they need to live by the bank and unscrupulous businesses.

not long ago i was also unemployed--i am also in your area in lauderdale by the sea so i know the situation in your area---in any case--here is what happened to me--while i first became unemployed--i obviously had no money coming in--this was before i got my first unemployment pay---i had $10 in my account---i have an automatic debit from net zero for 12$ every month---i knew this debit was coming very soon and knew i didn't have enough to cover it--i tried to stop the debit from net zero--they cannot--so good luck getting rid of automatic debit unless you cancel the service(at least this is how it is with netzero)---the point---sure enough netzero tried to debit the 12$----so instead of the bank just not paying it(wachovia)-they decided to NOT pay it AND charge me a 35$ NSF fee---i understand your point----however--to make matters more unscroupolus for your specific bank-is they charge you 35 per day!!!!!!in all honesty--what is there cost for your account to be like this that warrants them to charge 35 per day????!!!?!?!?!--personally i do not think it cost anything-it is just an excuse to charge more---in any case---i highly suggest when you get things straight and you do not owe them fees to close this account and go to another bank--not all banks charge this fee---in any casee----good luck with your job search

It's nearly impossible to stop an autopay..

Many find that out the hard way. it is a commitment similar to cash. And the bank is not going to have much sympathy as they thrive off these fees.
Now I will say 35 dollars a day is horrible. You should consider a credit union..or if you like the bigger banks try Chase. Sure you will still get a fee if you do not cover an Autopay (34 dollars) but they only charge 15 dollars per 5 days (breaks down to 3 dollars a day) until you make a deposit to cover it.
Not going to say Chase does not have it's lions share of ethics issues,,but they have recently made some changes that seem a lot more fair to low balance checking account customers.
I probably do not need to ask you this since it seems you are trying to cancel..but why did you need things like Jdate and Itunes? I have a good job and don't waste my money like stuff like that.
