This refers to the Bank of America in general, not this particular branch.
The Bank of American contracts with the California State to handle the unemployment debit card. Even though the Bank of America has a dedicated EDD customer BOA service, every branch I went in claimed that the BOA could not provide any information to me regarding my BOA card. However, my Chase bank representative, upon my providing my personal inforamtion, enabled to obtain that information by calling the BOA customer service.
The BOA customer service reps (the 5 I have spoken to) appear to have a specific language about the EDD contract, insisting that the BOA lends only "a plastic card" to the State of California but has noothing to do with the card, and that I should refer all inquiries to State's EDD office. My previious BOA inquiries resulted in being told that I should just have the money transfered to my bank directly - which I did.
In other words the BOA wants to get commission from the State but not do the work.
Because the poor customer service of the BOA I just had my EDDf trasnferred directed to my Chase account. However, the first direct transaction made (July 11, 2013) , the money was reduced by 10 percent, as shown by the email I received from the BOA and confirmed subsequenly. I called the BOA customer service from EDD and I was told that the reduced transaction reflects the amount received from the EDD. This is contrary to the CURRENT paper work received from the EDD.
On July 12, 2013, I went into the above mentioned Sacramento branch and requested an explanation as to why my biweekly EDD was reduced by 10 percent (from 320 to 288) . Two employees told me in so many words that the BOA cannot know my balance. I took a tape recorder out and requested them to tell me on record that the BOA cannot confirm/have access to my balance.
Upon the digital recorder action, finally a third BOA customer service bothered to call the BOA EDD office and, upon my providing the last 4 digits of my SS, accessed my EDD transactions.
I heard this (third) BOA customer service representative asking the EDD BOA desk "how much money was 'fired' and subsequenty asking an explanation for the difference."
After the call, he claimed that the EDD provided the 10 percent reduced amount. When I confronted him after the call with the 'difference' statement he denied it and said there was no difference and that the EDD provided the BOA a reduced amount.
I wonder how many EDD recipients are having their income reduced this way and who is responsible.
Thank you for your attention to this matter,
