On several occassions I have been charged multiple overdraft fees on transactions. I check the account late at night and it shows I have an avialable balance to cover the transactions that day. Knowing I have an automatic draft coming up, I deposit the money to cover it the next morning, only to log on later and find the ACH transaction has been posted below the other small debit card transactions and I have incurred multiple overdraft fees totaling over $100. This is slimy and stinks of ripoff. I have called and pleaded with them to reverse the charges but they won't. I live paycheck to paycheck and this causes me to not be able to pay some of my bills on time. I hate this bank. I have another account at another bank and they don't do this.

Okay you saved me. I am 52 years old and have never had a problem like this before, but since you guys are so determined to save me from myself I will agree to keep a register. I'm sure that will solve the problem. God bless you.

Change your procedure

Your bank has no way of knowing what transactions are coming in next. You are the only one that knows that information. If you maintain a current check register and stop authorizing withdrawals and debits against unavailable funds then you won’t care what order the bank processes the withdrawals and debits. If you follow that rule you will never overdraft.
“I keep a running log of my bills that are due on a legal pad and reconcile the balances every night.”
But yet you think that check registers are archaic. That’s a laugh.
“This is a legitimate complaint with hundreds of people having the same issue.”
I expect that all banks have the same complaints posted against them. That’s because their customers are following the same poor recordkeeping practices.

Thank you Jim or Joe or whoever you are for your concern. I keep all my receipts each day and check online every evening to make sure everything is current. I keep a running log of my bills that are due on a legal pad and reconcile the balances every night. The problem with BB&T is that they apparently don't post all your pending transactions so you can see them. at midnight they stick in the ACH debits ahead of the pending debit transactions that were already there, resulting in overages that you have no way of knowing are about to occur. They don't tell you this when you sign up, so now I know. Only after losing $324 for 2 incidents where I was only about $2 over. Don't you think I would like to have enough in my account to not have to worry about this every day? I haven't publicly made assumptions about your personal practices, so don't you dare make them about mine. This is a legitimate complaint with hundreds of people having the same issue. Your comments are offensive. This banks practices are slimy and crooked.

“checkbook registers went out with the dark ages”
That is totally absurd. You will continue to overdraft until you learn the lesson that you must maintain a check register to avoid overdrafts. The online balance is a tool to assist you but it was never intended to replace the need for a check register because it does not reflect outstanding transactions. A current check register will ALWAYS be more accurate than the online transaction report. If you balk at this theory then you are headed for a lifetime of overdraft penalties.

Excuse me, but checkbook registers went out with the dark ages. If it's any of your business, I check my account online several times a day. I am in a constant struggle to get by. I have done research and there are many many similar complaints against this bank for the same exact thing. Maybe you should reserve judgement when you don't know what you are talking about. Jerk

To cut to the chase...you don't keep a check register...you don't keep a running balance...but...you continue to use the card when you have ZERO knowledge of the balance.
Sorry, there's no grand conspiracy by the bank or the government. People who keep written records, write down each and every use of the card and do the subtraction right there and then, thus giving a running balance.
No, I don't work for them.
