I took out a one month membership on 6/11/2014 for $18.89.  Looking over the site, I learned that though I took out a one month membership, the website put me on auto-renewal.

I turned the auto renewal off.  On my homepage, the website placed a counting down to account expiration.  I never reactivated or upgraded my account again.  My account was to be downgraded on 5/10/2014.  However, the website charged my card anyway on 7/5/2014 which posted at my bank on 7/7/2014 in the amount of $11.24.  I did not authorize this payment.

I did not realize this until Saturday 7/12/2014 after wondering why I was still able to respond to people who contacted me.  I checked my bank account and found that I had been charged a second time. I called http://bbpeoplemeet.com/ to request a refund, but the office was closed until Monday.

Today, Monday 7/14/2014, I informed both a customer service rep, Stephanie, and a supervisor by the name of Brandon that their company charged my card without my permission and that I had turned the autopay off, therefore I wanted a refund.  Both insisted that yes, I had turned it off but I turned it back on on 6/5/2014.

In no way shape or form did I turn autopay back on.  In fact, some of my messages can be read where I am giving my contact information out to others because I would not be renewing.

However, my card was charged anyway and both individuals were telling me that I authorized payment.  They both got rude when I expressed the following points.

*If I signed up on 6/11/2014, why would they charge my card on 7/05/2014.  My initial month of service was not up.  They informed me that I took out another month.  When questioned, if that were the case, why would they charge me before my initial month was over, they begin to dominate the conversation stating because I continued using the site that I was not entitled to a refund.

*I then asked them both, at separate times, how could they justify me continuing to use the site on 6/11/2014 as a way of not refunding my money when the site is free to use if you are not a paid member.  I was downgrading my account from a paid member to a free member.  So, according to their terms, I was still entitled to use my account because I did not deactivate it.  I only signed up for one month of service and that is all I wanted.  They took it upon themselves to initially activate me as a recurring member.  When I deactivated it, they reactivated it themselves on 6/5/2014 and charged me before my initial month was over.

They both told me that on 7/5/2014 that I took out another month which was not true and still does not justify why I was charged again before my initial month was over.

As I informed others of what happened, I learned that I'm not the only one this has happened to. One friend was lucky because when they tried to charge his card, the card had already expired.  Another friend stated that they did the some to him and would not refund his money so he cancelled his card.

This site is stealing money from consumers and are justifying it by stating that continued used of the site voids any refund, though the site offers free membership.

When I deactivated the autopay, I received no confirmation email.  When the account was restored to autopay, no confirmation was sent either. If it were, I would have been able to turn it off again.

I filed a case with the BBB but the company did not respond. I canceled my debit card.
