On October 22, I made purchases using my debit card for my checking account, and mistakenly overdrew my account by $.22 (22 cents).  I was charged $35.00 that day for the overdraft, and although I wasn't happy about it, I knew it was my fault and accepted it.  This gave my account a balance of -$35.22.  Ok.  BUT, without having any other outstanding checks or having used my debit card, I was charged another $35.00, the next day, which made the balance -$70.22.  Clearly the overdraft fees were both placed on one item.  I spoke with two different people on the phone, and one personally.  They explained how they did this, and the attitude was, "it's your problem, because we don't care".
Here's what they did:  On 10/22, they "held" funds for a purchase of $31.25, and it reflects on the available balance as if it has posted--as if the money has already been removed.  An overdraft fee was then applied.  On 10/23, the SAME $31.25 actually "posted" to the account, and they applied ANOTHER overdraft fee.  This is wrong!  I have contacted the Better Business Bureau about this, and I am hoping to get my $35.00 back.  In the past, I have gone to the BBB about a couple other matters involving companies (not banks), who have treated me the same--rip me off, justify it, and tell me, "oh, well, tough luck", and I have had results in DAYS!  Something needs to be done about this.  As soon as I can have my paychecks redirected to my other checking account, BB&T will gone from my life, and I will be spreading the word about what a lousy company it is.  I would recommend xxxDirect.(((REDACTED)))

Update on my BB&T rip-off

AUTHOR: Sharon - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, January 03, 2010

Well, I did contact the Better Business Bureau, and BB&T refunded me BOTH O/D fees ($70).  I don't feel I was entitled to both fees, but hey, they gave it to me, so I took it!

I still contacted them about the refund, and let them know that even though they refunded that money, I still intended to close my account after my direct-deposit was removed from there.  Why?  Because the experience was ridiculous and inexcusable.  Why would anyone want to deal with any company that has such poor customer service if they don't need to?  I went back to my old bank, even though it's in another town.

I have read so much about BB&T and how they are ripping off customers, I was also charged 35.00 on  .57 cents  two times  in less then 12 hours, They refused to fix the error they made.

I was amazed when I wrote a letter to the editor In my local newpaper , they are ripping off milions of people.

Before the bank defenders come here to attack you...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 26, 2009

I would take the liberty to explain how this is a legitimate RIP-OFF.

Now..even though the bank charging you any overdraft fee at all for covering .22 cents is an outrage..you are willing to accept responsibility for your mistake..and pay the fee for said overdrafting as per your agreement to be with this bank. Doesn't seem to me you are a bad person..a thief or irresponsible..unless a mistake is enough to justify calling you any of that...I would say it does not.

Apparently..you were unaware that they would double fee it the next day..not even giving you 24 hours to make a deposit to cover the .22 cents..as well as pay the outrageous fee.

Some bank defenders will try to convince us...not by using reason...but by using "meanness" that the bank did nothing wrong and you deserve to be "punished".

Not all bank defenders are like this..but some are as you will witness by reading other reports regarding the banks, hopefully they will not come here to attack you..or me as they often do for siding with ripped off customers and exposing the banks part.

So..I will clear this up in a way that would be very difficult for even the most "savvy" bank defender to rebut...

By posting the very definition of the term "RIP-OFF" as it applies here...and seeing if this report meets the qualifications...

From the Dictionary...

rip-off (rpf, -f)n. Slang

1. A product or service that is overpriced or of poor quality.

2. An act of exploitation

Lets look up "exploitation" as well...it's a big word...

Once again copied verbatim from the Dictionary..

exploitation
   (ek'sploi-ta'sh?n) n.

1. Utilization of another person or group for selfish purposes: exploitation of unwary consumers.

It would seem obvious to anyone who could read..that you have a legitimate grounds to post here..according to the very definition of RIP-OFF from a Dictionary..not anything I made up.
