The crooks that run Beaverton Towing have a good scam going. They have contracted with the HOA for our condo complex, have hung up signs everywhere, and then sit and wait for you to park on the street. This doesn't sound so awful, except there are only six extra parking spots for our entire complex, and those are constantly filled. This means that when you have friends over, or are in a hurry, they swoop in and tow your car, to the tune of $180 to $250 in towing and storage fees.

They have done this twice in the last three months to my girlfriends car. Both times, she has been parked for less than an hour, on the curb in front of her condo. There are no posted No Parking signs, no posted towing signs (on this particular side of the street) and still she gets towed by these slime. They sit and wait for the unfortunate time when she doesn't ask me to move my car and park in her garage, and then race in, hook up, all to make a sleazy buck.

This sort of predatory towing is illegal in Portland, and I am going to do my best to make it so in Beaverton, if it isn't already. Not only should it be illegal, but I just don't understand the human waste that would want to make a profit on other's misfortune.

Not The Same Beaverton Towing

It was brought to our attention that there was an article posted on this web site regarding Beaverton Towing and our business practices.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2006, there was an incident that occurred where someone was towed for repeatedly parking illegally in a fire lane.

It is now June, 2011, Beaverton Towing is under new ownership "female owned" as of last year and we have an amazing staff and management team. We are not Beaverton Towing and repair, we are Beaverton Towing LLC. We are not even at the address listed in this complaint 3950 SW 114th Ave Beaverton Oregon 97005 U.S.A.

We are located at 16680 SW Shaw St, Beaverton Oregon.
Beaverton Towing is Nationally accredited through WTRAA, Washington County Police Department and Beaverton Police Department as well as Oregon State Police. We do fund raisers for Beaverton School District and are a part of the Washington County Drug Awareness Team

The business has been re-built from the ground up and this article is really negative advertisement and very outdated. 

We at Beaverton Towing are honored to serve the people of our community with honesty integrity and respect.

John in Beaverton! You actually suggest and hint at a criminal act for someone to commit? How stupid is that. It's called criminal mischief under Oregon Revised Statutes. You can be arrested for it and charged with a crime. Bad advice dude!

I too patrol HOA properties like the condos mentioned here. In the HOA PARKING RULES that every person has to sign who lives there, it says what the rules are. Where you can't park and that you can be towed if you break the rules.

Get informed. Quit throwing blame on others for your girlfriend's laziness.

When writting about a company you should be clear to state all pertinent facts, and if you dont know if they are facts, you should either due you research or eliminate the comment.

The fact that your friend was parking in a Fire Lane, twice, is a pertinent and significant piece of information that you choose not to share in your report. I feel that eliminating significant info is like not telling the truth and very misleading to the public.

Parking in a fire lane can be a costly fine for you, the HOA, and could cost someone there life in an emergency situation.
Fire Lanes are never ok to park in, it is a saftey issue and a mandate by local fire codes.

We do patrol per contract by your HOA. We do not sit and watch for you to park, and then pick up your car, this would be very wasteful.

I hope all that post comments about companies are careful to do so in a fair and truth telling way.

I feel for you Joel, I was also a victim of Beaverton Towing's predatory ways. The lot I was towed from had signs as well. There were parking spaces in the lot that clearly state that a permit is required, however there were also spaces that were unmarked. I parked in an unmarked space since clearly you need a permit to park in the others. However, I was towed even from the unmarked space.

Joel, all of those signs that Beaverton Towing posts cost money to make. If enough of them were to disappear you could cost that company an amount of money that equals what they took from you. Do you see where I'm going with this?

I work for a very large company in Portland and surrounding areas that is in the same business. I do the same type of work night after night. People are fast to call us every name in the book and call us "preditors" and think that we sit and wait for people to park. Thats wrong, all we do is drive around during our shift and do what we are contracted to do. I drive around to many diffrent accounts all night long. I might go through some more than others because of the demand. I tow cars every night and hear the same thing time after time, I was there less than 5 minutes. The truth is they mighthave been but I just hapened to drive through. It's like a game of Russian roulet, you might get lucky you might not.

The city of Portland does regulate towing and you don't know the laws. Like I said before thats what we do is drive around looking for cars. People assume that we sit there and wait. No I know I have hundreds of other places to be looking to find cars. I'm not going to sit and wait in hopes of someone parking there. Portland is in it for the money also. They charge almost $20.00 in fee's for every P.P.I. that a company does in the city of Portland. They are the only ones in the area to do that. Beaverton makes no money of a P.P.I. You say that Beaverton towing has signs posted everywhere as all companys do. I don't understand what people want do we need to put signs every five feet saying no parking? No, good luck with trying to get money back.

Complain to the HOA

It sounds like Joel should complain to his HOA. The towing company is following their contract with the HOA. You admit that you are parking in an area which is not a legal parking spot. I'll bet that your covenatnts from your HOA contain parking regulations.

Obviously, there is limited space in your condo. I'll bet there are legal spaces nearby.

If you have issues with the parking then contact your HOA. You agreed to all their covenants when you moved in so quit your complaining because rules are being enforced.

Like Karen, I've towed for many years. Towing contracts are just that, an agreement to perform a service for the association to which you voluntarily belong and to whose rules you agreed to follow. It's common for wreckers to "cruise" the property looking for violators, sometimes every quarter hour. It's not predatory, it's required.

Perhaps you could rent an extra parking stall at your complex and save your girlfriend some money, or she could actually park in her own stall. You didn't say if she has an assigned stall at her condo so can I assume she just doesn't like to use her assigned stall? Some tenants without cars rent their stalls out so that's another option for her. Avoiding us "crooks," "slime", and "human waste" is very easily done with little effort. Good luck in making Beaverton tell property owners what they can and cannot do with their private parking lots.

Rip off is Right...but wait!

Waiting for you to park on the street? Towers can not tow off of a street. Are you talking a private drive perhaps? Signs do not have to be posted where the vehicle is parked.

As long as they are visible from the entrance to the dewlling that is all that is actually required. They do not need signs scattered everywhere, infact most property owners do not want this.

This sort of predatory towing is illegal in Portland, because people who were in the WRONG finally found someone to complain to who felt sorry for the "citizens". Dont get me wrong, I agree that towers charge excessive rates, but if someone parks where they should not be parked, or just plain ignore the fact that they are illegally parking, shouldnt they pay the price? I mean comeon, when someone robs a bank and gets caught, they pay the price, what makes someone who parks their car on PRIVATE PROPERTY without permission (in this case not just once, but twice??) not have to pay the price.

I just dont understand peoples train of thought. Ok so again, I do agree, but lets read signs.
The rates they charge for all types of tows must be posted in their office. Did you compare the posted rate to what you were charged? I know in Portland, the private property impound rates have to be posted with the City of portland, perhaps Beaverton requires the same thing?
Question..how do you know these people sit and wait. Do you see them sitting there? If so, I dont get your complaint.

Please understand, I worked in the towing business for many many years, I got out of it because I was tired of "being the bad guy" in everyones eye, and frankly got tired of all the crap involved in the industry, I agree prices may not seem fair, but neither is parking on private property where you don't belong and at the request of your HOA you are towed by a company providing service for the owner(s) that are tired of people not following policies.I understand your frustrations, but dont think things will change anytime soon.

Contact your local police department(or county), ask for the person in charge of towing regulations and see what the requirements for sign postage and fees are and try to get some cash back. But lets NOT park here for a 3rd time! I am in no way taking the towers side, just giving my point of view.
