I have a Satellite X-205-S9800, with 3 years extended warranty. The latch that keeps the lid from flying open broke in the firts few weeks of ownership, but because I was in school I waited until the DVD drive started eating CD's to effect a repair. However I was told that the latch was regarded "Cosmetic" and not covered and that the repair would cost me an additional $460.00!
It states in the terms
"E. Service Plans (Refer to COC to determine which Service Plan(s) applies to Your Product.) 1. Extended Service Plan. This coverage pertains to You if listed on the COC. We will furnish labor, parts, and/or replacement equipment (or pay for same) necessary to repair operational or mechanical breakdowns of the Product specified on the COC, provided such service is necessitated by Product failure during normal usage. The Product specified and covered includes only equipment as originally configured and charged for in the Service Plan."
As a certified computer tech myself, I was able to track down the part that is $66.00.
But if I were to repair it myself i would loose the warranty!
