I purchased a laptop from their store on 02/06/09. 18 days later I returned to the store with it because it is having issues. It will give me error messages and low memory messages even when all I am doing is checking email.

When I returned to the store with it they had a Qeek Squad member verify that there is a potential problem with it. The rep explained to me that there is a potential problem with it and that we would need to work out a refund or exchange.

I told him I wanted an exchange. He told me they were out of stock on that item and that I would have to pick out a different one. After pickin out a different one we proceeded to the customer service counter to make the exchange.

The manager declined to make the echange. She stated that I would have to send the item to the manufacturer to be repaired. I told her I was not intrested in having a 18 day old laptop that needed repaired and I felt that an exchange was reasonable.

Best buy states that their return policy is 14 days on laptop. I feel that is reasonable when you are talkin refunds. At the 18 day mark a customer asking to exchange a product that is defective should not be unreasonable at all. Most other retailers would do it so why won't Best Buy?

I have filed a complaint with the BBB. I will probibly never shop at Best Buy again.

Just returned a digital camera

AUTHOR: Annette - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 27, 2009

I had done my research on getting a new camera and felt I had made the right decission. Wrong I was. After giving it proper use I determined that for what I spent, it should produce better quality pictures. Knowing I was outside of their return policy, I made doubly sure I was level, kind and straight-forward. They gladly let me exchange the camera for a different model. Granted I started working with a department head then got passed to a supervisor, without asking, there wasn't any issues. Now in the line next to me, the little checker immediately gave a gentleman attitude when he brought an unopened card reader back for an exchange. The checker said he bought it over 30 days ago and couldn't return it (Now mind you, this is still a stocked item). Another supervisor heard this and agreed that since it is completely unopened and they still carry it and ---this is key---he paid cash for the purchase. An exchange is not a problem.

After he walked away, I chatted it up with my supervisor and she confirmed that if a customer pays with cash it gives them more leeway on a return/exchange. I am sure my story would have been different if I had used the old credit card but smooth sailing returning a digital camera well past their return policy period.

Guess our economy is really really changing.

Policy is posted

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (U.S.A.)

And pretty straightforward. Fourteen day exchange. If you don't like the policy and other stores have a more generous policy, why would you purchase your laptop from Best Buy? You suggest what you "feel" the policy should be, but that's really immaterial.

This is not a ripoff. I don't think your BBB complaint will go very far either.

If you don't like Best Buy's return policy, don't buy their electronics.

AUTHOR: Wilson - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Best Buy does not make the computers or other electronics that they sell. They can set whatever refund or return policy that they want. No one is forcing you to buy computers from Best Buy. Contact HP, Dell, Gateway or whoever made the laptop computer and complain to them. The computer manufacturer may not help you until after you register the computer's serial number.
