Hi. I just wanted to weigh in and let consumers in Collierville, TN, know that Bill Heard Chevrolet in Collierville is the worst car dealership I have ever had to deal with. I own a 2007 Honda Civic that I bought from Dobbs Honda in Memphis. They did a great job with my financing, allowing me to view other cars, and caring for me after the sale.

Now, let me discuss my true complaint. I have bought other cars in the past, and I am known in my family for my haggling abilities at the dealership. So, when my boyfriend, an Iraqi vet trying to get on his own two feet after coming home, went to look for a truck, I was more than happy to volunteer to help.

So, on 2/8/08, I got a call at work from my boyfriend saying he heard that Bill Heard was running "Credit Amnesty." This program purports to finance everyone regardless of credit, sell vehicles 12,000 dollars below invoice, and require little or no down payment. My boyfriend, as you may have guessed, has less than perfect credit. I agreed to go with him to check it out.

I explained to him on the way to the dealership that the way it worked was we asked them for their bottom line offer and then "worked the deal" until we got it to where we wanted it. I assumed that, like every other dealership, we would be able to walk around the lot and look at vehicles before having to even start trying to make the deal. Boy, was I wrong.

We entered a gated lot, where we were immediately greeted by a salesperson ushering us inside. He introduced us to Samer (reportedly a "god" at Bill Heard), who would be assisting us with making the car purchase. Samer began by running my boyfriend's credit and talking about payments - before we were even allowed to look at a vehicle. When my boyfriend told him what payment he wanted, Samer stated that he could not afford the vehicle he wanted (a 2008 Silverado regular cab).

Well, my boyfriend had already spoken to another dealership in Memphis, who had offered him the car at the price he wanted, but he wasn't sure about his credit, so we came to Bill Heard first. I knew this, but I was keeping this little jewel for later when were actually making the deal.

Samer then said he had a blue 2006 Silverado that we could look at. My boyfriend wanted black, but we looked at it. We had to - they pulled it up right next to the window where we were sitting at Samer's cubicle. It had 27,000 miles on it, and, upon closer inspection, had several door dings, two large holes in the plastic flooring from cigarettes, a tater tot in the door, and ketchup packs and money in the ashtray. I told my boyfriend that the truck looked to be a trade-in that had not even been worked over.

My boyfriend also noted that two of the tires were bald and had been rotated to the back of the truck. Samer said he would "see what [he could] do about the tires." It drove like a log truck, and I told my boyfriend and the salesman (the one who initially met us on the way in and accompanied us on the test drive) that I didn't like the truck. This salesman, whose name I cannot remember, said he was new and was following Samer who was "[his] role-model."

When we got back to the dealership, Samer asked what we thought of the truck. My boyfriend wanted a truck so badly that he was fine with it, and I told Samer this, but I didn't like it. Samer then laughed at me and told us to come inside. He then told my boyfriend he needed 5000+ dollars from him for a down payment or 590-650 dollars per month for a payment on the previously described less-than-desirable vehicle. When I told Samer that it looked like it had not even been inspected, he said it was a trade, and they don't usually clean trade-ins. Whatever, I thought. I have never seen a dirty vehicle for sale on a lot, and, if I was shown one, I was told that it still needed to be cleaned up.

When my boyfriend asked about the Credit Amnesty program, Samer told him he didn't qualify. I didn't understand why because the commercial we heard on the radio said "With proof of stable employment and housing and approved credit." I guess it was the "approved credit" part that made it not applicable to my boyfriend, but, um, isn't that kind of the point of credit amnesty? No need for perfect credit is the point, right?

Well, I had enough. I politely thanked them for their time and said that we were going back to the original dealership my boyfriend spoke with (Serra Chevrolet, for those of you in Memphis). Samer stated "I'm sure I'll see you back soon" as we were leaving. We left, and, while we were en route to the other dealership, we received a call from Samer stating that he could get us the new 2008 Silverado for 360 to 380 per month. My boyfriend promptly told them that he would have to speak to me and call them back. We decided that we would counter-offer for payments between 300 and 320, which is the amount we initially quoted to them when we entered the dealership at 4:00 pm. It was then 6:00 pm. Samer said he would have to call us back.

Terrance Brown then called us back and stated that he could get the payments down to 368. My boyfriend told him that he couldn't do that, and Terrance said, "Why don't you just come back here and we'll work something out." I told my boyfriend to tell them that we were not driving all the way back to Collierville unless he could get the payments down to the range we quoted. He then stated he could use some "old rebates and dealer incentives" and get the price down to 328. We turned around and drove back.

We were met by Terrance Brown who said he didn't understand why he wasn't involved in the first place. We were then told that we could pick one of the Silverados off the lot. They didn't have a black one, so my boyfriend settled on a gray. The one he picked out had a bedliner but no other bells and whistles. As we were getting ready to sign paperwork, Samer came back and stated that there was another one on the lot with fewer miles that we should look at. It didn't have the bedliner, but it had a hook-up for a topper, which my boyfriend wanted. I liked the one with the bedliner, until Samer told us that it would cost more. So, we went with the one without the bedliner.

Samer then began getting all the paperwork together. My boyfriend signed all the paperwork, and then we were sent to finance. The payment was 328 at 6.9% interest over 6 years. My boyfriend agreed to this payment and signed paperwork with Jason. While Jason was going through the paperwork with us, he breezed by the Spot Delivery paperwork, and it didn't dawn on me until later what it actually meant. Please note, Jason spent approximately 15 minutes explaining gap insurance to us, but 2 seconds stating "This paper states that you are getting spot delivery. 45 states allow spot delivery and it just says that the financing won't go through for another 3-5 days." It is also important to note that Jason recently transferred to the Collierville Bill Heard, from the Las Vegas Bill Heard, where his mother is the head of finance. (I also noted several negative comments on this site about the Las Vegas dealership)

As Jason was reviewing our paperwork, he stopped and stated "Wow, 4500 dollars worth of rebates. That's a lot." He went through all the paperwork and said that it looked legitimate. Over the weekend, I mentioned to my boyfriend that the spot delivery could mean that they would come back and say that he couldn't be financed. I remembered this little tidbit a little too late, though.

He got the call on Monday from Samer stating he needed to come back in to sign some more paperwork. Then, when he went in on Tuesday, Jason informed him he either needed 1351 dollars down payment and his payments would go up to 368 at 13% interest (the original quote he gave us on Friday) or he needed a co-signer. When my boyfriend asked Jason further about the co-signer option, Jason stated he might be able to get him 10% if I signed with him. The last vehicle I bought before my Honda was an Xterra that I financed at 1.9% at Jim Keras Nissan (also a good dealership in Memphis). So, I was a little shocked to hear that we could only get 10%. Not only that, Jason also told my boyfriend that it would only bring his payments down to 362 if I co-signed, resulting in the final price of the truck being bumped up to 4000.

Well, being who I am, I wanted to help my boyfriend get his truck, and I was considering signing with him. I called Jason and left a message yesterday (2/12/08) at 5:30 pm, and it is now 2:50 pm on 2/13/08, and I have not received a call back. The whole thing seemed a little fishy to me, so I have been doing some research today since Jason has not called me back. I have found it extremely interesting to see how many other people have been screwed by the same people I mention in this post - Samer (called Sanio in one of the other posts), Terrance Brown, and Jason (who specifically said he just recently transferred to Colliervillej from Vegas). This seems to be common practice for Bill Heard employees across the nation, and it would be common sense to believe that the salespeople at Bill Heard are trained in this type of dishonesty and deception.

When my boyfriend confronted Jason in Finance on the changes, Jason stated that it was unheard of for a person to get 6.9%. So, since they are "Mr. Big Volume" wouldn't they be aware that there was a 99% likelihood that my boyfriend would not receive this interest rate, especially not with his credit (which they had already run!)???? Wasn't that the whole point of not even allowing us to look at vehicles before they ran his credit? Also, if Jason was astute enough to see that we got 4500 dollars in rebates, wouldn't he also think, "Hmmm, 6.9% is not likely for this guy." There is further evidence for this assumption in the fact that while discussing gap insurance with us in depth, I noted the 84 month payment option. Jason quickly said that was only for people with the best credit, and there was a "red line" across that option for people with less than 10 years worth of credit. So, he obviously knew my boyfriend's credit as well. So why then would the 4500 dollars in rebates throw up a red flag for him but the 6.9% would not? I guess it's a his money versus my boyfriend's money deal.

In addition, Samer and Jason both mentioned to my boyfriend and I that sometimes customers are very rude to them (I wonder why) and claim that things happen that did not happen. Therefore, according to Jason, everything is recorded. Well, it would serve to reason that if everything is recorded, the conversation we had about the 328 dollar a month payments and the sneaky manner in which Jason slid the spot delivery under the door would be recorded.

I am just thankful that my boyfriend did not trade a vehicle or give them any money. When he went to the dealership yesterday 2/12/08, Jason kept asking him for a post-dated check that he would not cash. My boyfriend refused until he spoke to me, and I am so glad he did, especially after reading about what they have done with other people's post-dated checks. At this point, our plan is to 1) post this bulletin, 2) contact News Channel 3 in Memphis, and 3) return the truck, hopefully with News Channel 3 in tow. Oh, and we plan to get in touch with a lawyer. Anyone interested in a class action??? I saw some other people mentioned it in their posts as well. I would be very interested in participating. These people should not be allowed to destroy honest people and their credit, including our vets!

Thank you to everyone who has posted about their experiences at Bill Heard across the country. They have really helped me bolster my argument against them.
