On Oct 18, 2006 my wife and I purchased a time share with Bluegreen resorts. The sales people told us if we weren't satisfied they would sell our shares with-in a week. Its been two years, we haven't sold it yet.
Three months after we bought in to the company we were invited to return for an orientation visit to help us learn how to use it. Instead they told us our points weren't enough to benifit from so they tried to sell us more. the sales person said " what we had was junk."

In the mean time we tried to utilize what we purchased and every time we tried to make reservations either nothing was available or they wanted to schedule a different time. It has been a nightmare to try to use. the system is hard to understand. the maitainance fees have gone up every year, which is another thing they told us was locked in at the purchase price. The address on the deed is in Florida but the actual transaction took place in Gatlinburg Tenn. The Mountain Loft resort is the only one we have been able to make reservations and thatwas only once. And then the room wasn't the one we requested.

Contact the BBB of Florida and file an official complain here's the address

Contact ARDA (American Resort Development Association) which Bluegreen is a member of. Read there code of ethics, and find the ones Bluegreen broke when they sold you the timeshare. Here's the website. www.arda.org

Also contact your attorney general and the attorney general of the state where you signed up. If we don't all file complaints, it boils down to a "he said she said". But if everyone files complains, it becomes 100's are saying similar things against this 1 company. It gives more credibility to all of us who were scammed.

Don't wait. Do so as quickly as possible. The sooner you file, the better the case against Bluegreen.

Take your time and write a good letter. Not a 3 minute deal. Sit and try to remember what was said, when it was said and how it was said. Tell your story in full.

Believe me I completely understand your frustrations.

Another Honest American cheated

I'm am saddened that another good person has been cheated by Bluegreen. 

This is pretty much EXACTLY what happened to me and hundreds, probably thousands more.  Lied to and cheated at the Laurel Crest coven in Pigeon Forge. 

Mike1 is a Bluegreen scumbag (employee) as everyone knows.  I don't understand how septic sludge like him can live with themselves.  I understand the need to pay your bills and feed the family, but no decent human being would consider doing what these parasites do day in, and day out.  These people (Bluegreen) are a nest of ticks.  Parasites that do thing but take from society and return nothing but pain and suffering.

If your reading this and you've been cheated by Bluegreen you need to go to the Better Business Bureau website for West Palm Beach, and then the region that covers the area where you purchased your timeshare and where your timeshare is deeded.  Then go to the Federal Trade Commission website and file a complaint there.  Then file a complaint with the Attorney General of the state you purchased your plan in.

Don't wait....PLEASE, do this now.

I agree the system can be hard to understand

Sometimes I think the system is so complicated that most of the salespeople don't understand it. But even if the salespeople do understand it, it is very hard to understand all the benefits yourself if you are trying to learn them in a few hours while trying to decide whether to purchase, and the average salesperson's first response to any problem later seems to be, "You need more points," which is not necessarily the case.

I can't help with the lying salepeople but when it comes to your inability to get reservations it doesn't sound to me that your problem is not enough points. How early are you trying to make your reservations? Every Bluegreen owner can make full or partial week reservations eleven months out; that doesn't mean you need to reserve that early, but it does mean that if you absolutely have to have a certain week I would recommend reserving as early as possible.

Also, there are two different types of Resorts in the Bluegreen system, "Club Resorts" and "Associate Resorts." If you go to the Bluegreen website and look up the resort you are considering, Club resorts have an orange dot up in the right hand corner and Associate resorts a greenish one. Club resorts are the ones Bluegreen owns, and Associate resorts are the ones Bluegreen only has a few units at, so your odds of getting the reservation you want are much better at a Club resort.

I've never made a reservation eleven months before I was going to check in, but I have still gotten every reservation I wanted at a Club resort. They didn't have the kind of unit I wanted at Mountain Loft but as it turned out the one they suggested cost me the same number of points and slept more people (so I invited someone along!), plus it felt roomier to me that the one I wanted (I suspect the one I got was actually smaller in terms of square feet, but the layout was more open). Mind you, I prefer to go off season because I don't like crowds, but OTOH these reservations were not all in the dead of winter, either.

If your heart is set on getting into an Associate resort most years then Bluegreen may not be a good deal for you, but it sounds to me like you're more flexible than that, and flexibility is what makes Bluegreen work. If you must have a particular week, then your odds are better if you are willing to go to Mountain Loft or Harbour Lights or Hershey, which ever works out (part of the appeal of Bluegreen is the variety for most people). If you must have a particular resort, then your odds are better if you can be flexible about when you go. And always your odds are better the sooner you call in.

The advice I got was to have either three different weeks listed as possibilities when I call for the reservation (if I want a particular resort), or three different resorts (if I want a particular week). If you go to Yahoo Groups and do a search there for Bluegreen, there is a group you can join that has a lot of excellent advice on what resorts are easiest to get into, how to get in the ones that fill up faster, what seasons are the best times to visit what resorts, etc. They may not have absolutely every answer, but they are helpful, generally knowledgeable, and open to questions.

And they don't think "buy more points" will solve all your problems. ;)
