Brakes Plus the Real Deal!?
This company has taken a turn for the worse. Starting from the top and spreading though the ranks their main purpose at this time, from my experience, is to make money! Lets face every company needs to make
money right? The problem is that there is good money and bad money. Brakes Plus has now resorted to taking both
In the past a customer would come to a location with a certain problem with their vehicle or for a maintenance service. Once the vehicle was checked over (diagnosed) by a technician a service/store manager would call you the customer or visit with them at the location. He or she would explain the cause of your vehicles problem and any other servicesrequired by the current mileage that your vehicle may require by the manufacturer.
This is important because many dealer and aftermarket repair facilities come up with their own ideas of what a 30 ,60 or 90K service should include. If you look in your owners manual and check what any repair company recommends versus what is recommended by the manufacturer of your particular vehicle you will see the discrepancies. Point being I believe
that the company that engineered and designed your vehicle is most qualified to recommend what services are due at what mileages they are to be preformed. Transmission service, coolant flush, timing belt, tune up etc...
This company over the last year has changed its views about the way, you the customer, are approached and handed down information to make a proper decision about your vehicles needs. Let me explain in more detail.
Example: You bring your 2009 Toyota Camry that is showing 55,000 miles on the odometer in for a brake inspection. It has been squeaking when you apply the brakes. You visit with a person at the counter give them your information and explain your concerns about your brakes. That person generates a repair order and explains that he will have a technician look at the problem and that they will also perform a no-charge vehicle inspection for the rest your vehicle while it is in the shop. You leave to work or home, maybe you decide to wait at the store until is it diagnosed.
A short while later you are called or visited with about the repairs your brakes system requires. The new philosophy is not to be upfront and honest about the brake repairs and anything else they noticed failing on your vehicle or
maintenance services they mightnt recommend. Instead they tell you only what was found with your brake issue. The no-charge vehicle inspection has not been preformed yet but they will call you if they should happen to find anything. They get your commitment to repair the brake work and give you an estimated time of completion with a promise to
contact you should anything else require attention. P.S. You are a fool if you dont think they havent performed this inspection yet!
Now understand, brake work can run anywhere from $59.00 to over $1000.00 depending on what type of vehicle you drive and what extent of work needs to be preformed to correct braking problems. To explain, a 2009 Honda Civic and a 2009 Chevrolet 1 Ton Diesel 4x4, depending on the concern of the customer will have two significantly different price structures.
Back to the sale! You commit to having the brake work done at $284.59. You leave and in 85% of the cases you are called back with a second quote based on the no-charge vehicle inspection they promised to do for you. (Arent they nice?) They proceed to tell you that your water pump is leaking, your radiator hoses should be replaced as well as a new thermostat and coolant system should be flushed. Also, by Brakes Plus standards, you need their 60,000 mile service which includes transmission, power steering and fuel system flushes. None of which the manufacturer of your 2009 Toyota Camery has recommended until 100,000+ miles. It will cost an additional 900.00 for this work to be completed.
(Bait & Switch)
The problem is you have 20% of your brakes remaining and they were starting to squeak because they were getting low, they are repairing them. Then the second call comes and you are now facing additional charges to fix your vehicle in other areas. Water pump leaking comes before brakes that still have some life left. But because of their new found philosophy they truly do not have your best interest in mind. Say you only have $400.00 to spend to repair your vehicle and they
just took $284.59. Now what the water pump costs $389.00 no hoses, thermostat or coolant flush. So you have a vehicle that stops with-out making a little noise but youre going to ruin the engine if you run out of coolant. Get this
maybe you dont want to put over 1100.00 into the vehicle and want to trade it in? Bad Brakes Plus!
As always you the customer has the right to approve or disapprove any repairs to your vehicle just a word to the wise when it comes to this company or any other, get the full report before making decisions and it never hurts to get a second opinion.
Just when I thought the automobile repair business was heading in the right direction of transparency and the realization that there is plenty of good honest money to be made once again I have been proven wrong. I have witnessed the owner of this company personally call stores and suck the life out of his employees by mentally degrading and demoralizing them regarding the previous days sales. I have witnessed discrimination of race, sex and age.
I see good people every day scared to say anything in fear of losing their jobs. I have watched the leaders of this organization go from a small operation, gracious to have the employees, customers and honest business they deserved. To one that is a greedy and selfish where employees are just a sales number and customers a $ sign!
