Canine Partners for Life may have a long history of training great service dogs but they show very little compassion or common sense when it comes to handling follow-up with their clients. Instead they follow a single-minded, rigid, and highly questionable routine, which in one particular case is now spiraling into senseless litigation.

After having given Rev. Claire a service dog 6 years ago, now CPL is trying to take the dog back.

In brief, CPL alleges that Claire violated her agreement with CPL and therefore they have a right to ‘repossess’ Willa.  Unfortunately, CPL doesn’t specify how Claire violated the agreement, but we think they must be referring to a “late” status report about Willa filed in April.  (CPL requested the report by April 2, and complained on April 4 that it had not arrived by mail, so Claire e-mailed a second copy of the report on April 6. [continued below]....

.....)

Can they really be separating a companion dog and her human partner over a late report?  Canine Partners for Life should be showcasing Claire, Willa and their ministry – not suing them!.

To an organization dedicated to establishing “lifelong bonds” between dogs and their human recipients and  "making the miracle of greater independence possible” suing a disabled priest who as a result of her wonderful service dog is able to live independently and even administer to the needs of others should be seen as a waste of time, resources, and reputation.

Update on this lawsuit

AUTHOR: claireandwilla - ()

This dispute has now been resolved satisfactorily, and I trust that similarly painful situations will not arise for other recipients. I continue to be grateful for Willa’s presence in my life. She is, as always, in good health, spirits, and training. We celebrated her eleventh birthday together in January.
