On a cruise on Carnival Triumph leaving New Orleans to the Bahamas.  Well as fate would have it Hurricane Irene changed our course so we went to Mexico.  Cozumel was ok, but Progresso was like a concentration camp. 

We had to be bused into town, armed gaurds were standing sround with M-16.  This is a very poor city not a tourist attraction and noone wants to feel that at any giving minute you may get shot.  The public beach you had to pay 10.00 to sit under the umbrella. To top it off they only returned 15.32 to each passenger. 

I went to voice my concerns to guest services and was basically told so what, but ofcourse in a nice way.  To travel from NO to Mexico is approx. $700. To the Bahamas approx $1300 and you only give back 15.32 with no explanation.  The boat leaked, smelled of sewage, the staff was unhappy and it showed Carnival  is a total rip off would not recomend this cruise.

It is sad that you have to have an employee respond to a complaint.  One that truly does not understand.  While Progresso was a flop, that was not he only thing I complained of which again shows the ignorance or arrogance or maybe bothe of this Cruise Ship.  I have gone on cruises before and I am well aware of the changes made during a storm, I still believe the Captain made the wrong choice, does he owe us an explanation, he probably thinks not, but it would be great to hear from the people in charge and no the people you hire. Sad Sad Sad

i am sorry for your bad experience.usually i try to make my guests happy and i am sorry that i wasn't there to guide you a little.to me personally progresso is a wonderful port .one of my favorites.it doesn't look like much that is true.the guards ...i didn't even pay them no mind.progresso is one of the closest to pyramids ,they have wonderful tours with small pyramids,beach and shopping.on the other hand city itself is very cheap,and the fruits there i loved cos they are so natural and so hard to find in this modern world we live in.on another hand we have bahamas.which is also nice port with its beauty but for me was enough to see outside from staying on board.it is so dreadfully expensive.one very cheap white t'shirt with poorest quality  with bahamas written on it is 30 us.maybe ,you wished to see bahamas and you were looking forward seeing that port but ones it is hurricane season you can never be sure what would happen.i usually tell my guests that we can't change it, which we can not but instead of feeling sorry for something beyond our reach to try and take the best of it from what we can.when you book the cruise next time i would suggest to read what you sign cos i believe that on one place it sais that they are not responsible for weather conditions and that the cruise itinerary might change cos of it for safety reasons.there are other stuff as well that are good to know.like they will refund only port charges.it is also very important to check the laws of the countries that you are visiting,to keep phone number you have to dial in case of emergency.very important is to be aware of using your credit card in ports which i tell my guests not to do unless they really have to cos the people on shore take advantage of short stay swiping card few times making multiple charges.have to go trough lots of trouble to remove them after.on the shore they are really very nice and helpful but check the charges.they do have their guarantied stores  which they make money from as well but at least gives you some rights in case they tricked you but you have to fill the form while you are still on board.there are many things.people come so excited and happy ,some waiting long time to come and cruise...cruise is special to them and sure judging from myself it makes me happy to make their vacation even better then what they expected but to have great vacation have to be aware of other side too so they wouldn't regret coming.stil i want to thank you for cruising with carnival and i hope that you would give it another try cos it is a very fun vacation.
