Charter One Bank (formerly First Federal Bank) is a Bank where I thought I could begin a savings program instead I ended up with a fee program. Total Free Checking is what lurded me into starting an account, besides my friends had an account with these thieves. They get you with the offer of $50 to start the account then after you activate direct deposit you receive an additional $50, that's about what I've paid in NSF (non sufficient funds) due to overwithdrawals. I've only had this account for 2 months and I'm already prepared to close the account. !Beware, whenever you call the 1-877-CHARTER number to check your BALANCES (more than twice a month) you account holders are being charged $0.50 for each call thereafter! That's what cause my account be be overwithdrawn $26.50. Then $100 for them covering the fee and an additional $33.00 every 3 days the account is in default.

P.S. When trying to resolve an account problem associated with fees, I found it more beneficial to speak to Customer Service Associate as oppose to the Bank Manager because the bank loses money with fee reversals. Therefore for the best results contact a neutural resource.

Yes Charter One is a Rip Off Company

AUTHOR: Beth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 18, 2004

I am in the same boat as the person who sent in there complaint I too was lured in by the totally free checking add and thought to myself after problems with Bank One that Charter One would be a Great Start well I was WRONG! I have been charged over $400 in fees and was told the reason why these fees were assessed to an account that I closed was that I did not have direct deposit and failed to keep the $50. balance in the bank!!!! That is ridiculous and i guess that is how Charter One makes there money by rucking people out of hundreds of dollars! Just think if I have to pay over $400 and everyone else is getting charged hidden fees then this bank is making billions from our money!!!!! I closed my account but it was misterously reopened because of a hidden charge What kind of crap is that! Charter One needs to close my account and leave it that way. Charter One is making it bad for other financial institutions I will assume keep my money hidden in a safe in my house were I know that I will not be assessed any fees!!!!!!! Charter One Shame on you and your hidden Fees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO CRUCIFY A COMPANY!!!

AUTHOR: Johnny B - (U.S.A.)

Let me begin by letting you know I am an employee of Charter One and have been for the last year and a half.

First off, Charter One's automated line fee is 0.50 per call after 5 per month. Second off, a service charge can not be the result of another service charge. I.E. you claim that you were charged a $100.00 fee for us covering your $1.00 automated fee. We don't even have a $100.00 fee. If you bounce three checks due to irresponsibility, you will get charged $99.00, or $33.00 per check. And with the account you specified, not only do we give you a free $100.00, we also waive the first 3 non-sufficient funds or overdraft charges!

And second, we charge $33.00 sustained overdraft fee for every four consecutive banking days, not three.

Please get your facts straight before you try to crucify a company because you are frustrated. The bank's job does not constitute balancing your check book.
