Cheap Tickets
Alaska Airlines

RE: Flight change, It#.............6538.

To Whom It May Concern:

On Dec. 5, 2016 I called Cheap tickets to change 2 round trip tickets from
FAT to PDX, from Jan. 3 - 7, 2017 to Feb. 10 - 13, 2017. I read on your
web-site that there would be a $125 fee for each ticket and I was willing to
pay $250 for the change. The first person I spoke with was very difficult to
understand but he did confirm the $125 change fee. I was then transferred to
a woman who proposed the Feb. 10th flight to PDX, stated that the fee would
be $250 for the two tickets and that they were not changeable or refundable,
and I had to book this departure flight before she could book the return
flight. After I agreed to book the flight she told me that the return flight
would be $204 for each ticket because Alaska Air would not allow round trip
tickets to be changed as round trip tickets but had to be booked as one-way.
At this point I was told my original flights were no longer available, that
I would be billed $250 for the departure flights, and if we wanted to return
home from PDX it would be an additional $409.
I was mislead, then had a gun put to my head and left with no choice. The
original flights cost me $612 and our new flights cost me $659.
As of this writing we will no longer due business with either Cheaptickets
or Alaska Airlines.

Contemptuously,

Response:
CheapTickets serves as a third party intermediary with travel providers such as hotels, car rental agencies and airlines and is subject to the rules and restrictions of those providers. As a result, we strongly recommend to our customers who choose to book their travel on their own to carefully review the details of the trip as well as the fare rules or cancellation policies.  The customer booked two one-way tickets, both with Alaska Airlines as the merchant of record, and the companies that charged the customer’s credit card. We hope you understand we have to abide by their rules and regulations.

On “Trip Summary” page prior to inputting the credit card details there was a section titled “Important Flight Information” below it stated, “Your flight is a combination of two one-way fares, each subject to its own rules and restrictions.” Furthermore the customer was advised of the following concerning the departure and the return flights, “Tickets are non-refundable 24 hours after booking and non-transferable. A fee of $125.00 per ticket is charged for itinerary changes.” The customer is also responsible for the difference in fare when changing the ticket.

We sincerely regret that we are unable to offer a more satisfactory response or resolution to Mr. Richardson’s concern. At CheapTickets we try as much as possible to provide not only excellent customer service but we also try to exceed what is expected of us. However we know that there are some instances when policies associated with the purchases made on our website cannot allow for a resolution that is more favorable to our customers. We are not trying to discharge ourselves from any responsibility; we only want to convey that we were able to provide Mr. Richardson with the necessary information related to your flight purchase before our system asked you to complete the reservation online.

We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to address the issues, brought to our attention. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this matter, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Hayden Jackson
Tier 3 Customer Service

Rebuttal:

There was little difference in the price of the original tickets and the replacement tickets. I could have kept the original tickets and purchased the replacement tickets on my own and spent the same amount of money, plus I would have still had the option to use the original tickets, which were basically stolen from me.

Cordially,

Sam
