I am a single mother with four childeren. I had never had a payment that was missed. I had bought my car two month before it was repossessed. Chicago lenders told me that they would take my payment out Saturday, I said okay. Chicago lenders tried to get a hold of me Monday evening, I had called the back right after the call was made twice they never awnsered. Tuesday morning I gave them a call right away cause I saw tthat the money had not been withdrawn from my bank account. They answered and I got a lady in there finance department I had told her that I had made arrangements for my debit card to be withdrawn for the payment amount due. She said the card was denied and they had epossessed the vehicle this morning cause I never called them back yesturday. I told her I did call back and no one answered and this was a few times during their business hour. She said will I'm sorry but if you would like the vehicle back you can make the due balance plus $200 for the repossession and the next car payment come up due as will. I told her how could you just repo the vehicle when the money is in the bank and was there before you repossessed the vehicle. I hung up on her cause I was so mad and called the back right away. My bank informed me that there was not pending transactions or any attempt for money to be taken out of the account. I called cactus Jack back and ask for proof that my card was denied they said it doesn't work like that the just enter the number into the computer and get back a denial description. Right then I knew they were lying cause you try taking a large payment out of the account the bank or company will have some kind of records showing that transaction. I told them they can keep the car cause if I was already going throw this problem and it's only 2 months I've had the vehicle it would just get worse. Chicago lenders keep the vehicle and had it auctioned off the car was worth just a little over $10,000.00 dollars they sold it for $2000.00. Now Chicago Lender is sending me letters in the mail saying that if I don't pay the remanding balance they going to take me to court through litigations and have my checks deducted from me. Chicago Lenders/Cactus Jack are con artist dealship and know exactly how to take advantage of people if you are having trouble with this company after been scamed contact the BBB and Attorney General's office they need to be investigated and shut down once and for all.

You are responsible for the balance of the loan.

So now you have a repossession on your credit report. When you borrow money to buy a vehicle and then the vehicle is repossessed, you still owe the balance of the loan plus whatever fees apply (towning, repo fees, default etc).  Look at your contract and it will detail the fees that will be charged in the case of default.

I don't work for that dealership or any other dealership, but I know contracts. Your contract is what governs the terms and conditions of your specific purchase. Just because the dealer took the collateral back, it doesn't mean that you don't owe the difference. There are long term consequences to your "just keep it" statement to the dealer.

Do some research on purchasing a vehicle and financing a vehicle. Allowing the finance company to repo the vehicle is more hurtful to you than just the loss of the vehicle itself. You will want to get this fixed so this repo doesn't hurt you for years to come.
