I've worked at Circuit City for a while before the liquidation of items occurred in GA.

I am told that the stores are liquidating items and have signage to that point, but I am particularly disqruntled with a Circuit City in Grand Rapids, MI.

The employees and managers are rude, and could care less if they give good honest "Customer Service".

My Aunt and her sister went to the store on 28th Street in Grand Rapids Michigan and wanted to purchase a Cassette/CD/MP3 boombox. She spoke with an employee and was told that the item she purchase would do all 3. She questioned the employee on the spot about being able to especially play MP3s and he assured her it would. She returned home and popped her MP3 in the machine and nothing. She tried the cassette and it worked, she tried the CD and it worked, but not the MP3 function.

Because being accustomed to decent or good customer service in my area, I suggested she go back to the store and talk to the sales person and see if they could help her. Upon returning, she was cussed out, the personnel was rude, the manager was worse and to top it off, they actually threatened to escort her out of the store.

How unprofessional that a store that should be giving respect and at least some customer service would treat an elderly person so badly. I am truly upset that this store would go to these lengths to make a sale by ripping off people and being disrepectful.

To the person who said the employees worked for the liquidation company: you are wrong.  They all worked there before except one consultant, who works for the liquidation company.

How do I know? My Dad was one of the consultants.  I know how the system works.
Before you go bashing my dad, I'd like to point out he was a manager of Linens N Things in Columbia before they were bought out by the same liquidation company.  Due to the fact he couldn't find another job (even with 30+ years of retail management experience), he had to work for the company that put him out of work.

As far as the complaint, get over it.  The employee didn't know the MP3 function didn't work.  That's the risk you take.  "ALL SALES FINAL".  Look at the receipt.  It was posted every 10 feet around the store.

Give the employees a break.  They deal with people asking the same stupid questions all day every day until they finally don't have work to go to anymore. Put yourself in their position.
Why should they care? What are you going to do? Not shop there anymore?

MP3 Playback...

AUTHOR: ReactorCore - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, August 06, 2009

Just a technical note here, but you have to be careful of the format of your MP3 media in some cases.

As an example, a friend of mine had an MP3 player, and couldn't understand why it wouldn't play his MP3s. The answer was, that he had given it to someone else to put the MP3s on, and instead of directly putting the MP3s in the ROOT directory of the memory, they put the FILE FOLDERS on which the software of the player could NOT navigate to, and it wasn't designed to do so.

So, one part of the equation here is; does the MP3 media that your aunt or sister put in the player actually work on other MP3 capable systems? Did the other systems (if it did play) have a different methods of "finding" the MP3 media? Some MP3 playing systems will have software capable of entering folders and/or subfolders and some WON'T.

Please keep in mind that with the above, I'm referring to the MP3 files having been burned onto a CD for playback, not a direct plug in via cables to the unit.

Oh, and finally, you need to make sure that the MP3 files have NOT been converted into a proprietary format! One of the latest complaints about Apple and the iPod, for example, is that any MP3s made with their iTunes software restricts the files to being played on Apple products ONLY, as it essentially changes the format to (I believe) MP4.

The advent of MP3 (and other formats) has been a real boon to music lovers everywhere. Sadly, however, this technological marvel has also brought with it it's own Pandora's Box of problems with the multitude of "choices" and options for recording and playback that it offers.

I hope that perhaps some of the above may help.

The loonies and idiots pop out of the woodwork. The nice thing is that the employees finally get to respond in kind without having to worry about losing a job...There are absolutely no repercussions and that short burst of freedom is a wonderful thing.

I agree with Vimot. You wouldn't come across a whole staff in a large store like that being rude and trying to escort her out. A small mom-n-pop store, sure. Not someplace that employs a few dozen. But they are the same workers that were there before the liquidation. There is usually only one representative from the liquidators present, and they are only involved in a few sales. Like when there is 3 Plasma TV's left, and someone is trying to talk down the price, the liquidator steps in to "negotiate". The rest of the sales are from associates who have worked there for awhile.

Also, it may be that the disc that the mp3's were written to are not compatible with that stereo. I've had stereos that I had to test out 3-4 different brands and type (CD-R, CD-RW, etc.) before finding one that the stereo would play. I suggest trying to burn a new disc of a different brand, and burn it at the SLOWEST possible speed to ensure a clean transfer of data. CD-R's are you're best bet.

what did the box say?

AUTHOR: Vimot - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 30, 2009

Being able to play mp3's seems to be a desirable function nowadays so it seems to me that it would say "plays mp3's" on the box. That disqualifies the ripoff accusation right there. And please do not say because your aunt was "elderly" she was not able to read the box. No excuse. If she was that bad off, and if her sister with her was also unable to read the box then someone else should have been with them to read the box. "But we listened to the sales rep in good faith" you may say - don't even try. If that's the case I have a submarine with a screen door she might like. The manager had to escort her out of the store most likely because she made a scene. She is lucky they did not call the police on her.

Well..

AUTHOR: Prissy - (U.S.A.)

Circuit City is selling out and closing down. The employees have got to get rid of all their merchandise and then go job hunting. Why should they care about customer service with CC ??????? If you want fire-sale priced merchandise, go to Circuit City while they are still open. If you want customer service, go elsewhere.
