I opened my bank account with Citizens Bank not even 3 months ago and a few weeks ago I overdrafted my account and had made deposits to cover the excruciating overdraft fees and I made two deposits that would more than cover the amount that I had overdrafted and today my ATM card was "captured" and I made phone call after phone call and was given the run around, finally I spoke to the branch manager and he told me that the bank was ending their "relationship" with me. I feel that not only was I not treated as a valued "citizen" but I feel that I was also discriminated against. I would advise people not use Citizens Bank, TD Bank, or Bank of America as they are all about the money and not the people that use their institutions.

Really?

AUTHOR: Really - (USA)

If you kept track of everything, like you stated you did, you would not have gotten overdraft fees.  But let me ask you this.  Did you make a deposit by check, and then used that money as if it was in your account that same day?  Something tells me that you did.  Check deposit are never credited that same day; so that is probably where you went wrong.  Although your money was "there", it wasn't credited to your account due to the fact that there is a hold placed on the check deposit amount until your bank gets word that the check is good.  That is your fault.

You know something.. the overdraft was less than $100. I was stuck down in Florida. And my parents tried sending me money but couldn't. The overdraft fees were $30 x 2 which is $60, I deposited $80 which more than covered the service fee AND the overdraft fees. So I don't need a calculator to do simple math. I obviously couldn't have kept an eye on my account while walking around Florida trying to get home. I don't appreciate your attitude at all. And AGAIN the bank didn't close the account because of the overdrafts they closed the account because of too many transfers I had made. But anyway it appears that you would rather insinuate that I don't know what the frig I'm doing. I'm sick of arguing with you. I made a mistake, get the frig over it already. And no one asked you to offer your opinion because apparently you think you're the all knowing one about checking accounts. Some people are not perfect with money and have problems with it. Deal with it. Not all of us are geniuses when it comes to managing money. And about my other accounts? None of your business why they were closed.. and unless you want to continue to belittle me for making a mistake I'm done with the conversation.

To the OP....

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 16, 2016

No one here has ever said that they have never had trouble managing money, and let me tell you right off the bat in the past I have had an overdraft.  But there is a difference between your attitude and others.

You see there are two types of people that end up with an Overdraft.

One group of people consists who get an Overdraft, but they take responsibility for their overdraft and see what THEY need to do to not only make it right but to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The other group of people who get an overdraft, instead of taking responsibility, decide to blame everyone else for the situation.  They refuse to think that they did something wrong, and refuse to take any suggestion as to how to keep it from happening in the future.

One group continues to get overdrafts time after time, one group no longer gets overdrafts.  I'll leave it to you to figure out which one is which, and which one you fall into.

This is bank number three for you, and I would bet that you didn't leave those other two banks on favorable terms either.  As if you had they would not have ended up on this report.  I will also predict that unless you change your ways, you will soon have a fourth bank added to your list and eventually you are going to run out of banks who are willing to allow you to open up an account.   You need to come to the realization at some point that if you continue to have similar issues over and over, perhaps it isn't everyone else..it is you.

Your initial report and initial update left ZERO indication of any fraud.  So yes, when you post this "revelation" you are going to be met with skepticism and extreme doubt.  Basically it seems as if you are again trying to come up with another excuse why you should not be held accountable.

Now, back to your original report.  You failed to mention any details.  Such as how much you had overdrafted, and how long you were in overdraft.  As you very precicely stated that you deposited enough to more than cover the amount YOU overdrafted, but failed to mention anything about the overdraft fees assessed.   So wondering what happened between a few weeks ago and now is really a mystery and probably very telling as to the real reason they closed your account.

I will also point out that you have not even had your account 3 months, and it was already a few weeks ago that you overdrafted.  So it is very likely that you overdrafted within the first month or month and a half of opening the account.

As for "harrassment", you are the one who posted on a PUBLIC web site, and sorry to tell you that no one forced you to post what you did.  You will also find that just because someone posts something you don't want to hear, does not make it harrassment.  So when you go to the police be sure to post this entire post and be sure to come back here and let us know what they said.  But don't worry it is obvious that no matter what is said you aren't going to change your ways, so I won't be "bothering you" by posting to your report again.

So in closing, you don't need a $6 calculator.  You can pick one up at your local dollar store.  In fact if you have any sort of "smart phone" it is probably already on it, or you can find a free app.

Calculators are $6 at Wal-Mart

We have a new excuse. Now it’s fraud. Initially it was your admission to an overdraft. Then it was your admission of a mistake while maintaining your account the best you could. How about the dog ate your check register?

You can call it harassment but keep in mind that you started this thread on a public forum.

If you do file a complaint you may be asked to substantiate your claims of discrimination and fraud. If you are unable to do so then you may be guilty of posting false allegations.

For your information

Before you go off saying I was mismanaging my money, which I was not. I kept track of EVERYTHING. And I'm sorry that you can sit there on your high horse like you're so d**n perfect at managing money and never have had a problem with it. Sorry to say but there are a hell of a lot more people that screw up their bank accounts.. not because of their fault, but the banks. And perhaps I have been a victim of fraud in which case I am and that is why the proper authorities have been notified. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. I'm done with you. And as I said go pound sand.

You're Making Us All Laugh!!!

Until and unless you learn to write down each and every card or check usage and maintain an on-going running balance, you are doomed to failure in checking account management. In EVERY case of somebody whining about overdraft fees, it's 100% caused by their lack of management. Typically, these same people blame the bank and the rules of mathematics! When you call the police, make sure you show them all of our responses here so they can laugh too!!!

Deposits kept

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, March 16, 2016

For every deposit and every withdrawal and everything else I maintained the account the best that I could so for YOU to insinuate that I didn't is wrong. One day there was enough and the next there wasn't. It isn't worth my time or aggravation to argue. I made a mistake in my judgement of going to Citizens Bank in the first place. People make mistakes so don't act like you haven't made any mistakes. I think I'm done here. Any further comments as to escalate this will be considered harassment and will be directed to the police.

Blacklisted

AUTHOR: coast - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Yes, banks are all about money.

Some folks maintain checking accounts for decades without an overdraft. You couldn’t go three months but for some reason you consider the penalties to be a rip-off. There is more to this story because you weren’t blacklisted for a single occurrence. You mentioned three banks in your complaint. That list will continue to expand until you decide it’s time to properly maintain a checking account.

There is no rip-off and you failed to tell us why you think you were a victim of discrimination.

It was YOU who overdrafted your account, no doubt by NOT keeping written records.  You then try to rush money to the bank, of course paying no attention to the funds availability policy.  It was YOU who caused this and because YOU decided to not manage your account, they decided you don't have the integrity to qualify for a simple checking account!  All this would not have happened if YOU had been doing what you were supposed to do!

NO RIPOFF HERE -- Complainer failed to manage a simple checking account.  Bank decided to end relationship accordingly.
