As a long time resident of Hampton, NH I have watched various banks come and go. I kept my accounts in the same building that they started in over 35 years ago as banks were bought and sold and new signs went up over the door. It worked out fine until Citizens Bank came along.

I closed my personal accounts at Citizens Bank years ago. I was trying to teach my child about banking. He brought in his change to be counted and deposited into his little savings account. We learned that they only count change before noon on Mondays so we came back at that time only to discover that they were too busy to count it. They wanted to take it and send a receipt later. Needless to say dropping off money and not getting a receipt was not what I wanted to teach my child. I brought my child home and came back and had a long discussion with the branch manager. Long story short, all of my personal accounts were closed that day and moved to a friendlier bank in town that counts change everyday, while you wait, and even gives you a deposit receipt.

I should have known then but I left several business accounts open.

Because of one mistake, I added an item instead of subtracting it, I was recently hit with a series of Ridiculously High Fees totally over $200 dollars. I met with a customer service person at the bank and I was told that an outside office may waive a couple of the fees. I asked that at least three of the $39 fees be waived if they had interest in keeping me as a customer.

They made their decision and I am no longer a customer of Citizens Bank.

It baffles me why they wouldnt want to keep a long time customer. An example of how long I have been there can be seen in the check number on my checks. I started my checks counting from 101 and Im now over check number 10,000. What really makes that significant is the fairly recent change in banking to online payments and debit cards. The checks I write per year now are few compared to the past.

The bottom line is that Citizens Bank doesnt care about anything except their bottom line. Any hint of customer care is gone.

My prediction is that Citizens Bank will fail because they have forgotten about customer service and their fees are through the roof.  Bank on it, just Not at Citizens.
