We purchased a camper, and immediate started receiving invitations to visit Lake Havasu Springs RV Resort.  After the third invitation, we finally decided to check it out for the weekend.  When I called to make the reservation, I was told that their preference was for us to come to Emerald Cove Resort because it was "nicer" and the sales staff was available there for the weekend we chose.  I told them that my families primary interest was fishing, and our preference was to visit the Havasu resort since Emerald Cove seemed to be primarily a boating resort.  They assured us that spending our "FREE year" at Lake Havasu was not a problem, but we needed to spend the weekend at Emerald Cove to hear the presentation.

Our invitation, which I still have, along with all the paperwork that came after the reservation, and after the presentation, clearly states that after hearing the presentation we would receive a computer, a years free camping AT THE RESORT OF OUR CHOICE, and a gas card for calling within 48 hours.

We went, we listened, and we turned down the membership.  The cost of the membership was way more than my family could handle, regardless of all their payment plans.  Being an unemployed teacher for over two years made that entirely impossible.  We stayed the weekend, without incident and left.

I made reservations for the Lake Havasu Resort when we returned home.  My husband scheduled his one and only weeks vacation.  We received our confirmation letter and left 2 days early for our vacation.  We booked two nights at a nearby campground because with your "Free camping" you are not allowed to stay at their campgrounds on a weekend.  Since we were close by we went to check out the campground.

I dont know that I can even find the words to describe just how bad it was!!!  And in such a beautiful area. It was filthy, deserted, nothing there like the brochure describes, and certainly not on a lake!!  No one was in the office, at the gate, and not ONE SINGLE person was camping there!  We were crushed, because we had been so excited about the vacation.  Not to worry, I thought, because there other campground was about 10 minutes from where we were -- Lake Havasu Springs Resort.  When I called, I told Robin, whom a spoke with at reservations, that there must have been a mistake in which one they booked because Lake Havasu Rv Resort was obviously closed down!!

To make a long story short, we were told that we could not stay at EITHER (despite having the confirmed reservation in my hand!)  That because we went to Emerald Cove, we could only go back there.  Believe me, I made her FULLY well aware of the situation, i.e., what we were promised upon attending the reservation, gave her the confirmation number of the reservation, and thoroughly explained that we WERE THERE!!  Sitting there in our car in front of the place!  They completely refused to allow us entry.  I demanded to speak to a supervisor. I was told she did not work for 2 days. When she did decide to call back, she was extremely rude, short with us on the phone, and told us our delimna was not her problem and we would NOT be allowed in the resort.

Needless to say, this FREE week cost us a fortune, and we were lucky to even find accomadations.  We had to charge everything, as we were not expecting to pay anything.  Our week was ruined and it was difficult, to say the least, to carry on after being treated as we were on the phone by someone with such a smirky, callous disregard for the situation.

i blame myself for not checking, until it was too late, the unbeliveable number of complaints against this company.  It's all sweetness and promises until you say no.  Buyer beware, we learned a very difficult, very expensive lesson. Thank goodness we were too poor to join.

Customer's Decision to Decline Free Camping

AUTHOR: Colorado River Adventures - ()

POSTED: Saturday, March 23, 2013

The consumer is this complaint is one that I am familiar with as I have already addressed this issue with her. The consumer visited our Emerald Cove Park on May 19th. The visit was free of charge (a weekend on us) and she received gifts, one of which was a year of camping, with limitations of course. When she called to make a reservation under this free membership she asked for our Lake Havasu Resort. The girl who made the reservation did not realize that one of the limitations on the free membership is that it is limited to the resort at which the consumer originally purchased (Emerald Cove), so she made the reservation.

Our Lake Havasu park does not get much visitation from our members in the summer because of the heat. It remains open to visitation from the members, but we do shut down one entire section. It definitely looks deserted. It is not filthy & it is not closed to usage.

When the consumer called to say that she did not want to stay at the Lake Havasu Park, but wanted instead to go to another park (Havasu Springs) she was told that she couldnt; that Havasu Springs was not available through the free membership and that she could instead come to Emerald Cove which is only 10 minutes further. She declined.

I DID, AND I DO, AGAIN, APOLOGIZE FOR THE CONFUSION CAUSED BY OUR RESERVATIONS STAFF.  Since Emerald Cove was not far from Havasu their refusal to travel the short distance was their decision.
