I had fullfilled my Columbia House membership several years prior to 2012. I was staying with in my fathers home temporily because I lost my home. When he recieved his eviction notice I called Columbia House and spoke with a costomer service rep to cancel my membership and to notify that I would be moving but was not sure where yet. The woman I spoke with informed me that she cancelled my membership and documented that I request a change of address.

I had not received anything else for several weeks, then suddenly I received an invoice that indicated that I owed over $100 for DVDs that were not returned. The list they provide were not of any movies that I possessed. I called and spoke with another customer service rep and assured that person that I had not recieve any mailings because I no longer have a membership. The rep informed me that my membership was still active and argued that there was no record of me calling and speaking to anyone.

Once again I cancelled the membership and put the change of address request in as well. I informed the rep that if any of those mailings did show up that I would send them back immediately. A couple of days later a neighbor from the end of our block delievered 5 of the mailings to me that were sent his home by mistake. I sent those back.

After that I was homeless for a short while because I had not been able to get an apartment yet. Once I got into an apartment I received invoice in the mail that indicated that I owed close to $300 for unreturned DVDs. Of course the list was now even longer. I called and spoke with yet another customer service rep who informed me that my membership was still active and there was no record of me calling and speaking to anyone or changing giving a change of address. This did not make sense because the invoice that I was holding came in the mail.

I informed the rep that I would not pay this bill because I did everything that I was suppose to do to ensure that the membership was closed out and the address was changed. Columbia House made the choice to contiue delievering DVDs to a vacant home. The rep threaten me with legal action then hung up.
