In October of 2012 my daughter was admitted to the hospital with Kidney Stones, to which she stayed for 3 days after being admitted through the Emergency Room. I had a Combined Insurance Supplemental Insurace Policy. My Sales Rep came into my office at work just to check in and see if there were any claims that needed to be filed. I explained the situation to her and she said well, you should get $400 for the stay in the hospital, $50 for the ER visit, $150 for followup care and $25 and $300 for the hospital stay.

After gathering all the supporting documentation that they required to file the said claim, I filed the claim at the beginning of January 2013. I received requests for additonal documentation from Combined Insurance. I complied and sent the information they requested back to them. I called to follow up on the policy and they said that they were still waiting on documentation from the hospital and suggested i go to the hospital and get a copy of my daughter's medical records. Combined Insurance stated that they had sent 2 separate requests to the hospital and they had not responded.

I called the Medical Records Department at the hospital.  The lady that I spoke with stated she had not received anything from them and she would have recognized the name because it wasn't a normal company she dealt with (this should have been my first clue). On April 1, 2013 they mailed a check out for $75.00, WTH?!?!?!? My monthly premium is $53.62, I am a single mom and missed 3 days of work because my daughter was sick. I can't afford to be irrational with my money.  I called Combined Insurance and asked them to explain why the check was only $75?

They stated that because she was admitted to the hospital for observation and not as inpatient that they would not cover the claim. Now, if you are admitted through the ER, are you not an inpatient? ARe you kidding me really? I asked to be tranferred to Customer Service to cancel my policy, I gave Customer Service and earful and cancelled my policy. I then called my Sales REp and left her a voicemail that I cancelled my policy and not to bother calling me. This company is worthless! I had all the documentation necessary and they denied the claim for something I cannot find in their Policy Guide.
