Purchased GVision 15" monitor from CompUSA which offered a $90.00 rebate. We sent in the rebate form early in March and waited until early in May to contact the "WheresMyRebate" folks. Aparently they had denied the rebate claiming that the store receipt did not show the date of purchase.

I was instructed to fax an additional copy of the receipt showing a date which I did at a cost of $4.00. I waited 2 weeks and still no rebate. I then called them and was told that it was being input and should be ready shortly. I went to check on their web site "www.wheresmyrebate.com" and guess what? The web site no longer exists.

I called the 800 number and was given the same web address. I then called CompUSA's rebate center and was told to contact "wheresmyrebate" at their 800 number or go to "www.compusarebates.com" That web address isn't there either. So much for any hope of getting my rebate.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

How to avoid rebate headaches and hassles.

AUTHOR: Carrie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 22, 2003

I am an ex-employee of CompUSA, and worked in the front end/cashiering department for seven years.

My main duty was assisting customers with rebate requests and difficulties. Knowing how many rebates CompUSA deals with on a weekly/montly basis, I can assure you that it should have been a full-time job in itself! :-)

If the "wheresmyrebate.com" site is down (not an uncommon occurrence, to be honest, I disliked working with that fulfillment center intensely!), your best recourse at this point is to contact the store directly, and ask for the front end manager. They often have assistants (such as what I once was) to handle this problem directly. Most of the higher management at CompUSA will have the ability to take care of your situation. Also, if you have not already done so, contact the main HQ at 1-800-COMP-USA and let them know that the rebate fulfillment house is not meeting up to your expectations.

What you should realize is that it's not actually CompUSA who is denying your rebate claim, but the fulfillment center who handles the paperwork for the claims - my talks with these representatives have yielded the information that they handle up to ONE MILLION CLAIMS PER MONTH. That is an almost unbelievable number, to be sure, but unfortunately I can see where they get it from. Your real beef is unfortunately with the fulfillment house - but as a representative of that center, I agree that CompUSA should give you a hand in dealing with the situation.

Call your local store where you purchased the item, and ask for the front end manager. He or she will be more than willing to help you with your claim.

I wish you luck in the future.
