This is maybe my 4th or 5th letter I have received over the past few years. In relation to an outstanding credit card debt with a bank that I don't even think exists anymore.Any how,it's been over 12years that this debt supposedly been taken care of.And they continue to send me these notices.I think there is alternative motive for this harrassment. My instincts tell some sort of promotion, maybe with other interests of theirs or their affliates.

Believe it or not, old unpaid debt (sometimes even paid debt) accounts are sold by creditors and other collection companies. If the debt is older than 7 years 180 days from the date of default it can't show up on your credit report, but that doesn't mean the debt goes away. The collections agency can still attempt to collect from you but can not put it on your credit report. Of course, some of the collection agencies don't follow the rules at all.
Go to the various legitimate credit and debtor websites to get more information on how to handle these collection agencies and zombie debt. Don't contact the collections agency without having a full understanding of what they can and can not do to you.
