Credit Acceptance has made my life miserable for a week calling my phone every 2 hours even after I had talked to them and informed them that the payment had been mailed a week before it was due. They rudely informed me they had no control over the mail and my payment was late; it was due on 9/12. On 9/13 they starting calling me. My coupn book states I have 10 days they again rudely informed me that means nothing and my payment is late. However, if I pay on line or set up ACH then the 10 days are honored??? I am sorry I do not give out my bank info over the phone to anyone especially to ignorant unprofessional people. I work for a living and having my cell phone go off every 2 hours is unacceptable, I thought there were laws against this?

The reason..

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

You are with a Sub-Prime lender, meaing that you have not proven you can handle credit.  As such they are going to be more aggressive in making sure that they get THEIR money back.  They probably hear "The check is in the mail" hundreds of times a day, and a majority of those people actually never sent the check.  So regardless of if you did or did not send the check, until they actually get the check all people are going to be lumped together.  But this is one of the consequences of your past history.

The 10 Day "grace" period your coupon book is talking about is the grace period before you are assessed any late fees.  This grace period does NOT change your due date.  So if your due date is the 12th, the 13th you are late, and yes they will start calling.

Now, as for safety.  You do realize that sending the check is actually less safe than going on-line.  When you mail a check what does it have on it?  It has your name, your address, your bank account number, and your SIGNATURE.  More than enough for the people that actually handle it to grab it and wipe out your account.  Not to mention that once they get the check they scan and store your account information anyways.  In addition there is no proof that you sent the check, even if you paid for a method for tracking it doesn't prove 100% that you actually sent a check.

Now, what happens when you go on-line.  First because you are going through their system you have absolute proof of when you made the payment.  A "human" doesn't even touch these transations as it is all automated.  The only thing that is sent is your account number(and perhaps your name).

Now is it 100% safe..no but it is a heck of a lot safer than mailing the check.  Oh but you are probably saying well what about "hackers".  Well guess what..remember how I mentioned that your acccount information is probably even stored if you mail a check.  Well if they are "hacked" they would have your information anyways...and this goes for just about every company as well.
