I have an overdraft protection of $400.  I recently used their bill payment services to make 2 payments.  Both of these payments put me over that $400 limit.  The bill payment center made 3 attempts to take the funds out of my account for these 2 items.  Each time the item was returned I got hit with a $29.00 return check charge from both the credit union and the bill payment center.   In other words I got hit with over 12 returned check charges for 2 items.  When I asked the bank to send me a paper copy of the agreement I agreed to to in order to use the bill payment service and highlight on the agreement where they disclosed that they would redeposit an item over 3times and each time the item was returned both the bank and the bill payment center would charge me $29.00 for the same item.  They said they would but it has been over three weeks and I have heard nothing.  These are not hidden charges.  These are undisclosed charges.  They did reverse 3 of the charges but I feel all of them should of been reversed due to the fact that they didn't spell out they would do this to the consumer prior to using the bill payment service.

Some information...

The bank holding your account doesn't decide when or how many times an item is presented forpayment. That is done by the bank trying to collect the money. In this case the one that has the account for the bill payment center. Some banks only try one time, some try twice and some keep trying until they're paid. Unfortunately your bank ( and all banks) charge a NSF fee for ransaction returned unpaid. Whether it's 12 different transactions or the same one 12 different times. The bank refunding 3 fees (1/4 of total) is actually pretty good since they didn't have to refund any. The charging of NSF fees is outlined in the terms & conditions that you signed when you opened your account. You should have been given a copy at that time.

Your real complaint should be against the bill payment center since they're the ones (through their bank) that sent the items through so many times and charged a NSF fee each time on their end as well.

There is nothing in the agreements that said they could do what they did.  As I stated, I asked them to highlight on the agreement where it said they would do that.  Its not in writing.  I don't write bad checks.  Any one can make a math mistake.  I have been banking forr over 30 years.  Never had a banking problem.  Since they came up with banking rules to rein in these ripoff banks they just invented new ways to rip people off.  If they knew they were right they wouldn't of removed any of the charges.

Do you need them to hold your hands?

Listen its a bank not a babysitting service. It was on you as the person who is using the service TO READ YOUR CONTRACT!! If you did not read the fine print then its ALL on you. How exactly can you expect the bank to eat these returned check fees? You basically admitted you were writting checks you KNEW you couldnt afford. Thereby causeing this issue. Once again....How is this the banks fault. These fees are not hidden. ITS CLEARLY SPELLED OUT IN THE PAPERWORK YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN!!! The fact that they reversed three of them is WELL ABOVE AND BEYOND what that bank had to do for you. I would suggest that your overdraft protection isnt the issue. Its the fact that you wrote checks that YOU COULD NOT AFFORD!!! Period. You attempted to use the system in your favor. Well much like a casino, the house ALWAYS wins. Next time READ AND UNDERSTAND the services you are useing. As this was a returned check fee this would be in the information you recieved upon opening your account originally. This means you KNEW there was going to be fees. Stop trying to blame a bank for your mistake. Grow up and handle your finances like a adult and stop blaming others for your mistakes. Its called PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY.
