Called and got a case number via the local number in San Diego.  They offered to have someone pick up the drive which seemed very nice as the company's address was only a few miles away.  I declined and said I'd drop off the drives instead.  I arrived at the address only to find that it was a Regus office.  I'd searched so that I specifically found a local recovery service center.  I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed that the drive would be picked up and taken to be serviced at one of the many clean rooms available here in San Diego.  I later found out it was sent to Canada.  I would not have dropped it off knowing that my sensitive business data was being sent out of the country.  On the phone, it was explained that most services fall within the $350 range, but it has been as high as $1500 in some cases.  All seemed reasonable.

I paid the initial fee for the express diagnostic.  It was for 24 hour diagnostic.  I dropped my drives off on a Thursday.  There was some confusion about the drives and they sent me an email asking to clarify what drive was which.  I did and waited another day.  No answer.  I emailed.  No answer.  I called the next day and finally got a hold of my "rep."  Four business days later (6 calendar days) I receive an email asking for an additional payment and telling me that my drive needed to have the head stack replaced and the cost was going to be around $1800.  Several hundred dollars more than the original estimate.  Needing the data, I pay a down payment the same day.  A week goes by and no update.  I email and there's no update.  Several more days go by and I call and email.  I finally reach the rep and he says that there's no update.  They've been working around the clock but there's no update yet.  Several more days go by and then I get an email form letter stating that the drive was unrecoverable and asking what should be done with the drives.  I ask for the return of them.  They agree and I assume that I'll receive my drives the next day.  No drives for several days.  I call to find out where the drives are and the rep tells me they haven't been shipped yet.  I get a FedEx tracking number the next day and learn that the drives have been shipped via ground from Ontario to San Diego.  So much for valuing the customer's time.  The package arrives 9 days later (a month after I dropped the drives off) and I learn that the package only has one drive.  My other drive is still there.  They didn't ship it.  No explanation as to why.  Just didn't.  The say that they are shipping it now and I've asked for it to be overnighted.  Bottom line, I'm out $500, no data recovered and I'm missing a good drive still.  I had the original drive mirrored, but in a round of exceptionally bad luck, the original and the mirror both died at the same time, despite one being an external drive on USB  and the other being an internal eSata drive...

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

We are always ready to resolve if your case is genuine!

AUTHOR: From DataRetrieval.com - (United States of America)

I am very sorry if you have had a bitter experience. We delight in offering quality and expedited data recovery services and solutions that are priced reasonably. Yes for some cases the services we render for recovering data seems to be high due to the magnitude of the damage involved in the media. Though an estimate can be given during the initial conversation, it is only after a thorough diagnosis done on the drive that exact price for the data recovery can be quoted based on the source and severity of the data damage.

I feel it is my responsibility to make things right if your complaint is genuine. I am not certain of what occurred as far as your case is concerned, but I would be more than happy to discuss with you so as to find if my company has overlooked your case, or you have misconceived our service inadvertently. DataRetrieval.com always endeavors to make customers happy and satisfied by providing the best possible data recovery services and solutions at reasonable rates for all types of data loss issues.

Thanks

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Dataretrieval.com isn't a scam. Their services are 100% RELIABLE in all aspects. Don't be misled by the above complaint.

AUTHOR: Edwin - (USA)

The above complaint opposing the services provided by Dataretrieval is groundless. I know about their excellent services since I myself have benefited from them in terms of nominal pricing as well as timely delivery. My hard drive which had my official records and invaluable family photos stopped working. The sad side, I didn't have backups of any of the data in it. I took the drive to a local computer shop who after examining the condition of the trouble advised me to approach Dataretrieval. He also told that the services rendered by Dataretrieval are priced reasonably since I had the fear about what it would cost to recover my data from my media.

I gave a call to the company where one of the rep answered courteously and explained me all about the recovery process. Their dealing was very genuine. The rep told that exact price quote cannot be given at that point without diagnosing the drive., but a rough estimate can be given based on whether it is minor or major problem. They told that the price for recovering data starts at $99 if it is a minor problem and goes up according to the severity since it will need the time and effort to restore with respect to the intensity of the issue. I got convinced with their explanation that was very clear with no confusion added to it or any hidden agenda behind it. Then i sent my drive to them for evaluation. They called me back promptly and gave a report that had the details about the cause and cure of the trouble in my drive. I had a budget in my mind, and to my surprise they quoted me just $250 which was far less than what I expected!

DataRetrieval time and again kept me updated on the developments in recovering the data from my hard drive through calls and emails. Never at any stage did they increase the charge from $250 as mentioned in the above complaint. Data retrieval never slipped away from their commitment of time duration for retrieving data where all my data from my hard drive was successfully recovered and delivered to me promptly. The services of Dataretrievel are 100% dependable. I am a testimony to their professional dealing. Dont be misdirected by such false complaints against a good service provider in this data recovery industry. DataRetrieval saved my invaluable data and saved Expense as well. I appreciate their expert service!!!
