The Delaware Government has changed legislation that allows them to vacume up all personal property what they claim is dormant (owner not contactable for 3 years).
Of course the Government's such as Delaware make the case they are trying to reunite people with their lost property. However, in my experience nothing could be further from the truth.
The State of Delaware is absolutely determined to hold on to other peoples money even when the rightful owner claims the property with complete and uncontested proof of ownership.
I was informed by the claims department within Delaware Government my claim was complete and the normal turn around time to be repatriated with property was 4-6 weeks. That was 10 months ago. After countless emails and phone calls I am seemingly no closer to getting my property returned (which has a substantial value). To date, no explanation has been given by the claims department as to why my property has not been repatriated.
It would seem to me the more substantial the dollar value of the claim the less enthusiastic the Delaware Government is to re unite the rightful owner to it. The Delaware Government has introduced legislation to absolve themselves of paying interest on the seized property. Escheated property is now in the billions and it is the 3rd biggest form of revenue for the state.
It is interesting but not surprising the unclaimed property department is located within the revenue department. That single fact screams to me of conflict of interest.
What does the rightful property owner do when the government acts like the Mafia. What does a single person do when the government controls all avenues of complaint and pursuit of justice?. The Delaware Government is supposed to be a ethical institution, however, in my opinion they have ethics akin to an internet scammer.
I would be very interested if there was any possibility of launching a class action against the escheat governments who use the process to "steal from people".
