This woman is a backyard breeder of golden retriever puppies.  She works a full-time job, outside the home and admittedly kept puppies, under three months of age, crated for TEN HOURS A DAY.

She had a litter of golden retriever puppies born in late 2014 and at least one of them has been diagnosed with severe subaortic stenosis, a genetic heart defect that IS heritable.

She was aware of this when the puppy was three months' of age, has a written report stating the diagnosis of mild to moderate subaortic stenosis and yet made the decision to BREED THE SAME DOGS AGAIN.  That litter was born right before Christmas 2015.  Breeding the same male and female dogs together again, there is a good chance they produced another puppy with subaortic stenosis, a serious heart defect, that can cause sudden death in dogs diagnosed with severe subaortic stenosis.

The puppy with severe subaortic stenosis was given away.  She stated that she was donating the puppy for therapy work, because she was such a calm puppy.  The pup was calm because of her heart defect!  Denise stated repeatedly that there was nothing wrong with the puppy, that the puppy's heart murmur was "insignificant" and that her doctor told her the dog would die of something one day, but not from her heart murmur.  A board certified cardiologist wrote a two page letter after performing echocardiogram and Doppler color ultrasound that this dog has SEVERE subaortic stenosis and the chance for sudden death is high and commonly occurs between the ages of 1 and 3 years old.

Buyer beware!!  Denise Rempert does not see a problem in breeding these two dogs!

We have NOT gotten it wrong

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, April 27, 2016

No, we have not gotten it wrong.  When you have proof, SOLID proof, in writing that a breeder, in this case Denise Rempert of Fox Lake, IL flat out lied and held back critical medical informatioin at the time she gave the puppy to us, and then continued to tell us via telephone calls and instant message texts (that I have a copy of) that there was "nothing wrong with Keeper, she's fine!!", withheld information about an ultrasound she had done on Keeper at two months old by a regular vet that diagnosed her with SAS, didn't give us that information until Keeper was six months' old, there is no conceivable way we got it wrong.  As I stated before, there is nothing we can do for Keeper.  She was born with this heart defect, severe subaortic stenosis. Denise knew it and decided to give Keeper away, telling everyone that every once in a while, she donates a puppy from a litter, but not bothering to tell anyone about the serious heart defect Keeper had.  I posted all this information on Ripoff Report because even AFTER she was aware that Keeper's dam and sire produced an SAS puppy, she BRED THEM TO EACH OTHER AGAIN!!  Who knows how many times she has done this? Not only did she lie and deceive us, but she called Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy and deceived them, telling them the reason she is donating Keeper is because she is "so special, perfect for therapy" and NEVER BOTHERING TO TELL THEM OF KEEPER'S HEART DEFECT and the REAL reasons she was giving her away, she knew she couldn't sell her with a heart defect.  No matter how many times Denise convinces someone to come to this site and write about how wonderful Denise is, the fact remains that she is breeding dogs with a serious heart defect, which is SO UNETHICAL AND MORALLY JUST WRONG.  Breeders, good breeders, breed to improve the standard of the breed, NOT for money.  SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON DENISE REMPERT.

An Inside Look

AUTHOR: Nicole - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 30, 2016

My name is Nicole, and in posting this my intention is not to be disrespectful or to point fingers, but rather to simply add my observations and experiences to what has already been said. I am a 21 year old veterinary assistant, and as Denise has stated, her “right hand girl.” Because of this, I have been able to assist Denise in whelping litters, I have observed her as she picks sires, I have seen how she treats her pets, and how she treats those dogs that have left her care. I am also lucky enough to own not one, but two of Denise’s Golden Retriever puppies, and I could not be happier with her as a breeder, or the dogs themselves. I have so many good things to say, and will try to get them all out as effectively as I can.

I am the person that Denise has take care of her dogs during the day when she is at work, so they are not alone all day. While I am there, she will tell me what she needs done with the puppies, including feeding, and activities to prepare them for when they leave her care and go to their forever homes. We do many different activities with these puppies, including activities to get them used to items swinging in their peripheral vision, and to get them used to moving earth, something Goldens tend to have problems with. There are many more activities that we do with them, but those are a few examples. She is very attentive with her puppies, and she will sacrifice her free time, and even sleep, to ensure that the puppies are cared for, clean, socialized, and happy.

Before these puppies are born, or even conceived, Denise spends hours researching sires for her females, going many generations back in family lines to look at health to ensure that she breeds only the healthiest of puppies. Many times I have had long, in depth conversations about sires and family lines while we decided which males to use. Choosing the right sire for the right dam is something that Denise takes very, very seriously. She checks for health clearances, and I have accompanied her to get health clearances on her own females as well, something else that she takes rather seriously.

Once the puppies are born, they get round the clock care from either Denise or myself, until they are old enough to go to their forever homes. However, unlike with many breeders, once the dogs leave her home and her care, she does not consider her job to be done. I have seen twice, even in the relatively short time I have known Denise, that she has gone above and beyond to care for dogs that she had sold or given to others. Two of her dogs had gotten sick, years after they left her care, neither of which were sick because of genetics or hereditary diseases, and both times she worked tirelessly in attempts to save them. For one of these dogs, she allowed the owner, as well as the dog, to stay in her home while she worked round the clock to care for her. This is not the act of a negligent breeder, or a scammer.

As I said, I am also lucky enough to own two of Denise’s Golden Retriever puppies, a male and a female. In my life, I have always been around dogs, and these two Golden Retrievers are simply amazing, much like Keeper. They are both healthy, they have strong hearts, and have wonderful temperaments. So many times in the few months I have owned them, I have told Denise that they are such special, beautiful dogs, and each time she responds “this is just how my dogs are.” With what I have seen from the dogs she has raised, Keeper included, I have to believe her. With all of the care that they receive when they are young, and all of the activities Denise plans for them, these dogs are just phenomenal. They are charismatic, sweet, gentle, smart, gorgeous, and most importantly, healthy. I tend to get a little bit paranoid, and every time I think there is an issue, no matter how big or small, I can always text or call Denise, and she is more than willing to help at any time of the day. While I have not had any issues with them, I know for a fact that if a serious issue were to arise with either of my puppies, she would step in and help in any way she was able. I have experienced it first hand, seeing her care for other dogs she has bred, as well as with my own dogs, including those I did not get from her. I have seen her get calls from those who own the littermates of my puppies if they have issues, and have seen her assist them in any way she is able, including talking them through it, or even going to their home to assist with problems they may have. I could go on and on for pages discussing how wonderful my Goldens, the other Goldens Denise has raised, and Denise herself are, but I believe I have made my points clear. While this may not be a direct response to the issues brought up here, I believe that it helps form a clearer picture of who Denise really is both as a breeder, and a person, and she is absolutely wonderful at both.

ADDENDUM: STATING THE FACTS/TRUTH

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 28, 2016

One attachment was left off my most recent rebuttal dated 03/27/2016, it is attached now.  Keeper's medical record from her breeder, Denise Rempert's vet clinic (Fox Lake Vet Clinic), showing Denise purchased the medication Cerenia, a motion sickness med, six pills. There is NO HISTORY, nothing written about Denise having been prescribed a heart medication for Keeper, please see attached. Denise's LIE, attempting to put the blame on my husband and myself that we didn't properly care for Keeper and that is why she now has severe SAS is simply a LIE.  Anyone with any knowledge of this SERIOUS HEART DEFECT knows that it is genetic and hereditary and there was NOTHING we could have done to change that.  We are very, very lucky that we didn't lose Keeper to sudden death during the first year of her life, because of Denise Rempert's FAILURE TO DISCLOSE the truth concerning Keeper's heart defect and, instead, continually tell us, in writing and during phone conversations, that Keeper's heart murmur was "insignificant" and continually told us to "forget it! she is fine!"

As far as Keeper, she is truly our baby, our love and she knows how much she is loved.  She adores her older sister, an almost 14 year old golden retriever rescue (from As Good as Gold, Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois).  We have certified Keeper in animal assisted therapy and she LOVES to be with kids and ADORES the work she is doing.  She has been seen by a holistic vet as well as under the care of a western vet practice, eats the best food money can buy which includes all organic vegetables and fruits and under the care of the best board certified veterinary cardiologist in the Chicago area.  We are so fortunate to be retired and able to enjoy Keeper and her sister all day, every day.

Again, my reason for posting is simple, to try and help other naive animal lovers out there to DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Do NOT believe what you are told by the breeder.  Make sure everything is backed up with written information.  Denise Rempert has actually bred Keeper's mother and father again, knowing of Keeper's serious heart defect.  It breaks my heart to think that there are going to be golden lovers out there that are going to have their heart broken by this woman.  Miriam, Morton Grove, IL

Simply the truth, backed up with facts

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Sunday, March 27, 2016

Bottom line, I hope that when someone is looking for a puppy golden, they do their homework and research the breeder.  I know what the truth is and I can back up all of my statements with written records:

  • Medical records from the vet that formerly co-owned Keeper with Denise Rempert, to the echo report stating her serious GENETIC, HEREDITARY HEART DEFECT (severe SAS) done at two months of age, but NOT given to us until she was SIX months of age (written records of that date faxed to my veterinarian).

  • Medical record form from Denise Rempert, handed to us at the time we picked up Keeper in early April, 2015 where she hand wrote Keeper’s vaccines and also noted “normal slight murmur.” (see attached health form given to us by Denise Rempert).  Nothing stated that an echo had been performed or her diagnosis of SAS, nor were we given a copy of an echo until almost two months later.

  • Written records showing the medication that was given to us for Keeper when we picked her up from Denise Rempert at Fox Lake Vet Clinic, which was for motion sickness (Cerenia) NOT a medication for her genetic, hereditary heart defect; Denise continually maintained that Keeper had an "insignificant heart murmur." Copy of medical record from vet where Denise Rempert took Keeper, Fox Lake Vet Clinic.

  • "Marny", you and Denise can continue to tell your lies and threaten me with taking Keeper away. From this point forward, it is falling on deaf ears.

  • I submitted this report for one reason, to warn and inform anyone looking to buy a puppy golden retriever to do your homework and research the breeder.  Do not take their word alone.  Go to OFAA. Org to see if their dogs have been tested for genetic conditions.  Check with the Golden Retrieve Club in your state.  Call the golden rescues and find out what they know about the breeder. I welcome your inquiry and I can and will refer you to the president of the American Golden Retriever Club of Illinois along with two board of director members that my husband and I know very well.

  • As Good as Gold, Golden Retriever Club of Illinois, of which my husband and I are volunteers and have been for many, many years, helping in the rescue of goldens and golden mixes.

  • My husband and I are also certified therapy handlers with a very reputable animal assisted therapy group here in Illinois.  We have raised, NOT bred, goldens for over 35 years, some of which were rescues, and have many, many friends in the golden retriever world so we can surely recommend an excellent breeder to you.

  • You may ask then why would we accept a dog from a breeder we knew nothing about?  BECAUSE SHE LIED, DECEIVED AND MISLED US at a time when we were very, very vulnerable, having just lost our beloved 11-1/2 year old therapy golden four weeks before Denise Rempert contacted the animal assisted therapy organization we are certified with.

  • Which brings us to...everything happens for a reason, there are no coincidences. Keeper was meant to be with us, where she is and has been very, very well cared for and we will continue to lovingly care for her for the rest of her life which sadly may not be beyond 3 years of age, due to the genetic hereditary heart condition she has. Per Michael Luethy, DVM board certified cardiologist who we took Keeper to at one year of age told us and I have in writing as well, that Keeper's heart defect IS genetic and hereditary, that it canNOT be fixed and due to our loving watchfulness, she is still here and there is nothing we can do nor nothing we have done that would have changed it, period. Again, I will gladly share that information which is in writing from Dr. Luethy.

  • Remember, this breeder along with the sire's breeder bred Keeper's sire and dam AGAIN after knowing of Keeper's heart defect.  That alone should speak volumes to you and again, I have it in writing from BOTH breeders that they did, in fact, breed Keeper’s sire and dam AFTER knowing of Keeper’s genetic, hereditary heart defect.  The full responsibility for Keeper’s severe, serious heart defect lies on the breeders.  Nothing we did or can do will change that.  All we can do is restrict her aerobic activity, keep her weight down and give her the heart medication that Dr. Leuthy prescribed for the rest of her life, which we have done and intend to continue to do.

Denise Morjal Rempert - the most reputable Breeder I know!

AUTHOR: Marny - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, March 26, 2016

I have to say first and foremost that anytime someone writes a "report" and will not sign her name, I totally disregard anything she says.

This "report" that Miriam Feldman wrote in regard to Denise M. Rempert is extremely difficult for me to get my head around, as I have known Denise for a good many years and she is nothing if not kind to humans and devoted to her dogs!  More than that, she is devoted to dogs who are in bad situations and in need of rescue.  When one of her dearest friend, Connie, was dying of cancer, not only was Denise that visiting her every evening, but she was also either taking care of Connie's own dogs or the dozen rescues that Connie had to leave in her home while she had surgery.  (Denise has found GOOD homes for all but two of the rescues and those two are now HER dogs, treated with the same love and respect that she treats all living things.

Denise is not only a Breeder of Merit, but she is a model for anyone who has ever thought of thought of becoming a dog owner, or after that, becoming a breeder.  She puts her dogs above herself in every case.  Almost 8 years ago, after I lost my Golden Retriever, Logan, I was a lost soul.  Two reputable Breeders (one the breeder of two of my previous Goldens and the other the Owner of the sire of the two Goldens I had had), these ladies separately told me the same thing; that a lady named Denise M. Rempert had a litter on the ground and I needed to call her to see if any of them were not spoken for.  Well, I did and the pup that she placed in my home was the most marvelous GR I have ever known.  Denise was more than a breeder, she became a friend, a great mentor, and is the person I most admire in the World of Dogs and for that matter, the one I most admire (period).

When a friend told me someone had written a complaint to a ripoff report website about Denise M. Rempert, I was in a state of disbelief!  Thru the years, when I proudly told who was Mick's breeder, I was proud to say it was Denise.  I am still proud to tell people I am proud to have my current puppy come from one of Denise's wonderful litters.  Having experienced a puppy from her twice now, and knowing many of the folks who have gotten pups from Denise (as with Denise, she treats everyone like family, so naturally we feel like family and have become one), every single one of these folks have nothing but praise and delight in dealing with Denise and in having one of her lovely pups.

Denise works with Rescue, and not just Golden Retriever Rescue, but any needy dog, she will move Heaven and Earth to find "perfect" for that dog.  Denise always places her puppies with the condition that if ever one of us (the lucky folks who have one of her dogs in their lives) cannot keep one of "her" dogs, that they are to come back to her.  As I've known Denise for so long and keep in touch with her at least weekly, I feel I can speak with authority that she has never done an unkind thing in her life.  She is ethical, honest, helpful beyond belief (when my Mick suffered a major medical condition, she spent hours researching, trying to find help for him).  I have loved and lived with at least one Golden Retriever since I was 11 yrs old, I know exactly what a gem Denise is and I thank God for her presence in my life.

Even with the report Miriam Feldman placed with this agency, Denise is only worried about her beloved "Keeper", the second Golden (can't remember if Denise gave Ms. Feldman the first Golden, but I DO know Keeper was given to her at no charge, given medical reports, even given meds recommended by a specialist and her promise of her providing these meds for as long as Keeps lives) that she has placed with Ms. Feldman.  Denise, of course, values her pristine reputation in all areas of her life, including the Dog World, but her main focus thru this entire event remains Keeper's well being, thought of with her own well being coming a poor second.

Those of us who love our dogs, know a statement of truth:  that dogs are always at the mercy of their owners and if things don't go well, the dog always looses.  and little Keeper does not deserve to lose.  I urge Miriam Feldman to please return Keeper to Denise M. Rempert, so that Keeps can live the best possible life with Denise, knowing she is loved and cherished, is given the best medical care available and lives in a home free of unecessary stress and strife.  And these are MY words, nobody else's.

Respectfully submitted (with great effort, as I am simply outraged at this accusation),

Marny

The TRUTH

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Saturday, March 19, 2016

Denise, in your rebuttal, you did NOT set the facts straight, rather, you lied and attempted to put the blame on me, when all the responsibility lies on you, so I will once again lay out the facts and this time be very specific.  And, to anyone else who is reading this, I have proof, invoices from veterinarians that show specifically which medications were purchased, when/what date we received the initial echo report, and countless correspondence between both breeders stating which dogs they were breeding and when…which I will address below:

  1. Health record – you gave this to us when you gave us the dog, Keeper.  In it, under “Medical Record” you note “January 4 – cardiac:  normal/slight murmur.”  At the time we picked up Keeper, you gave us that health record; NO ECHOCARDIOGRAM REPORT was given to us at that time.  You repeatedly told us, over the phone AND in writing, which I have, that Keeper’s heart condition was “insignificant” and that a vet told you she would die of something one day, but not of her heart. The following month, we took Keeper to our vet who examined her and told us she had a stage IV/V heart murmur and our vet called your vet and asked for a copy of the echo. That echo was performed by a vet, NOT a veterinary cardiologist, Dr. Randall, who misread the echo.  Once our vet saw a copy of the echo and spoke to Dr. Michael Luethe, board certified veterinary cardiologist, he recommended that we see him when Keeper turned one year, when her heart would be fully grown and have another echo performed, which we did have done by Dr. Luethe.  At that time, he diagnosed her with severe subaortic stenosis.  Denise, from the time we first met you until we met with Dr. Luethe, you continually reassured us that Keeper was fine, that all she had was 4 abnormalities, etc, etc, NEVER ONCE MENTIONING subaortic stenosis, and also reassuring us that it was insignificant.

  2. YOUR LIE:  “Keeper was prescribed Anatol to keep her heart in rhythm and to not allow her heart to remodel.  I purchased a bottle and told you I would continue buying Anatol for the life of the dog.  I was surprised & disappointed when the unopened bottle was returned to me in the mail only a week after you adopted her.”  LIES, LIES, LIES !   NEVER did you EVER mention or give us a bottle of Anatol. What you gave us the day we picked up Keeper was medication for car sickness (Cerenia), six pills which you repeatedly told us was VERY expensive. We chose NOT to medicate her for motion sickness and have been able to manage her holistically with organic fresh ginger and so I returned the pills by mail to you.  Nothing EVER was said about Anatol.  In addition, there is NO record of this medication being purchased on the medical records we obtained from you, nor in her health record folder. The heart medication she will be on for the rest of her life is NOT Anatol.

  3. YOUR LIE: “Prior to giving you Keeper, the dog, I disclosed her health condition to you.  I gave you a copy of the echo doppler report showing that Keeper had 4 abnormalities making her condition genetic & not hereditary.  You were given the opportunity to speak with Dr Randall, Dr Lewiston, & Dr Luethy, a board certified canine cardiologist.” LIE:  Keeper does NOT have four abnormalities –LIE that you consistently told me, telling me that combined, they were minor and would not affect her health at all.  NOTHING WOULD HAVE CHANGED KEEPER’S HEART CONDITION.  As a breeder, shame on you for not having more knowledge about SAS (subaortic stenosis), a serious heart condition common in Golden Retrievers.  This heart condition is heritable (definition: able to be inherited, in particular) and genetic.  Dr. Luethe gave us a two page written report after Keeper’s echo at one year which states not only is Keeper’s heart condition in the severe stage, but he goes on to say it IS heritable and it IS genetic and any of her littermates, sire and dam should be checked for even the slightest heart murmur, which apparently you had NOT done.

  4. YOUR LIE:  “due to your lack of proper medical care, Keeper's heart remodeled”.  THE TRUTH:  Keeper was born with this heart condition which, at three months when the first echo was performed, was at moderate stage. As her heart grew, and it is full grown at one year and thus the reason for us getting another echo but, this time, from a board certified veterinary cardiologist, she was diagnosed at the severe stage.  NOTHING we did or did not do made any difference, there was no “remodeling”…again, this is a serious heart condition that is hereditary and genetic and again, you misled, lied and deceived us into believing that her condition was insignificant; “she is fine!” was your mantra, over and over and over, when I would text you or call telling you of my concerns how calm she was and tired more than we thought a puppy should be.

  5. YOUR LIE: “There was no repeat breeding.  “   THE TRUTH: Once again, I have it, in writing, from you as well as the breeder of Keeper’s sire that, indeed, you repeated the breeding of Keeper’s dam and sire knowing full well of Keeper’s heart condition.  As breeders, you should be knowledgeable of any genetic/inherited condition/disease of the breed you are breeding and never, ever breed those dogs together again, better yet, never breed those dogs again period.

  6. YOUR LIE: “You were given the opportunity to speak with Dr Randall, Dr Lewiston, & Dr Luethy, a board certified canine cardiologist”  Never was it recommended or suggested we speak with Dr. Randall. We knew nothing of him until our vet received a copy of the echo report, weeks after we took Keeper home and saw his signature on the echo report.  Dr Randall is the one that performed the echo and misdiagnosed Keeper.  TRUTH:  We met Dr. Lewiston, co-owner of Keeper, the day we picked up Keeper.

  7. YOUR LIE: “Since I knew that f her health condition, I choose to find her a home and to not sell her.”  This may have been your plan but sadly, NOT what you repeatedly told us verbally and in writing.  Our therapy dog passed away at 11-1/2 years of age March 3, 2015.  Four weeks later, we received a call from the therapy group stating that “a breeder” had called them stating she had a 4 month old puppy that was “perfect for therapy.”  Since they knew we had just lost our boy, they called us and put us in touch with you.  From that point on, you disclosed that Keeper had a “slight heart murmur” and repeatedly in writing as well as verbally told us it was insignificant, to forget about it and let her be a dog.  Since her diagnosis of severe subaortic stenosis in November, we are now restricting her aerobic activities and she is now on heart medication for the rest of her life, per Dr. Michael Luethe, board certified veterinary cardiologist.  She will need a repeat echocardiogram yearly for the rest of her life, which more than likely will not be a long life, as he states in his written report, dogs with severe SAS commonly die between the ages of one and three of sudden death.

  8. “Yes, I do work full time but I do have someone come in to spend time with my dogs while I am gone.”  The day we went to your house to pick up Keeper, you told both my husband and myself that you work full time and Keeper  is crated for TEN HOURS A DAY.  At that time, you did not have anyone coming in to be with your dogs.  It wasn’t until the following litter that you found a young woman.  When we brought Keeper home, she was NOT housebroken (4-1/2 months old!) and had a very bad urinary tract infection.  You NEVER mentioned it, but you DID give us a jar of cranberry supplement as a “just in case”…another deception.  We did not realize the poor pup had a UTI for several days.  She was urinating quite often in the house, but we thought it was from excitement of a new home, a new dog (we have another golden), so sadly Keeper suffered through a UTI for several days without proper treatment because YOU failed to disclose her UTI.

  9. Yes, you and the other breeder offered to take Keeper back.  You both completely missed the point.  We wouldn’t give her up for the world, not for any amount of money.  I am “putting this out there” to warn people of breeders like you, who knowingly continue to breed dogs that have produced puppies with serious genetic/hereditary heart conditions.

For anyone reading this rebuttal, I state once again people DO YOUR HOMEWORK before bringing home a puppy from a breeder.  I hope by writing this it will at least save one family the heartbreak that we have been and continue to go through.

Setting the facts straight

AUTHOR: Denise - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, March 18, 2016

Miriam Feldman, I am a Breeder of Merit with AKC. I do health screenings & clearances on all of my dogs.

Yes, I do work full time but I do have someone come in to spend time with my dogs while I am gone.

Prior to giving you Keeper, the dog, I disclosed her health condition to you.  I gave you a copy of the echo doppler report showing that Keeper had 4 abnormalities making her condition genetic & not hereditary.  You were given the opportunity to speak with Dr Randall, Dr Lewiston, & Dr Luethy, a board certified canine cardiologist. Keeper was prescribed Anatol to keep her heart in rythem and to not allow her heart to remodel.  I purchased a bottle and told you I would continue buying Anatol for the life of the dog.  I was surprised & disappointed when the unopened bottle was returned to me in the mail only a week after you adopted her.

Miriam due to your lack of proper medical care, Keeper's heart remodeled.

Since I knew that f her health condition, I choose to find her a home and to not sell her.

There was no repeat breeding.

Both the stud dog owner and myself offered to take Keeper back but you refused and have continued to use her in therapy work.
