Devtome Offers to pay writers but takes down material with no explanation Internet

Devtome is an unusual type of ripoff in that they don't actually demand money -though they do ask for donations. They do, however, rip off writers' time, which is one of their most valauble resources. It is a wiki type site that promises to pay writers based on an extremely complex algorithm having to do with alternative currencies. They are affiliated with a Bitcoin-type online currency called devcoins. I will admit that I don't really understand any of this.

Though not specific, Devtome promises an unusually high rate for writing, considering that you can write anything you want. The only limitations are the usual ones -plagiarism, rants, hate speech, blatant advertising, ect. However, if you read the small print, they let you know that admins can remove your material at their discretion.

Based on testimonials I had read, I posted a large amount of writing on Devtome -I think it was around 30,000+ words. Much of this was republished from other sources (my own writing from blogs and other sites), which is allowed under their rules. However, just before payment was scheduled, all of my writing disappeared. When I wrote to admins to inquire, I received no response whatsoever. It was as though everything I published -quite a few hours of work, all told- was just erased by some anonymous admin.

If you check out their forums, you will see that this has happened to others as well. While I don't understand the complex inner workings of the site, I can say that it operates in a very underhanded and deceptive manner, with arrogant and/or inept admins who don't feel the need to answer inquiries.

I would advise freelance writers to avoid this site. Even if they do keep your work up, someone else can edit it at any time, as per the rules of wikis. It may be tempting to think that you can make easy money for writing what you want, but you may very well end up wasting your time like I did.

Although I am all for coming up with new and innovative platforms on the web, Devtome appears to be a very poor example of this, to say the least.
