I have been trying for teo months to buy a Nikon D80 Digital camera. According to Nikon, this camera is made in ONE version which is shipped all over the world AND includes the battery and charger "in the box."

The MSRP for these camers seems to be $995.00 but they are advertised by MANY companies at prices from $379.00 up.

These cameras are impossible to buy! ALL the stores have a similar story. They take your order and complete credit card information and THEN start with the switch part saying that the advertised unit does not include a battery or charger and they want to sell you a battery that can be purchased all over the Web at $15.00+ for hundreds of dollars more. If you refuse to but the expensive battery and charger you are told that this unit is a "European," "Asian," or some other Non-USA version and does not include the USA warrenty.

THEN they try to switch you to the "USA" version at double the price.

IF you insist on purchasing the advertised version, the order is cancelled OR you are just told it is on "back order" and the date is continually revised.

This procedure seems to be endemic throughout the industry and NO ONE seems to care!

I have reported this to the FTC and Nikon and they both refuse to do anything about it.

Other companies, besides the six listed, that did this are, express camera, camera pros, and prestige camera.

I am now waiting to see what they intend to do with the credit card information they collected. It is likely the information is in the process of being sold but I have notified my credit card company to be on the lookout for fraudulent purchases!
