On Friday Sept 4, 2009, my neighbor cane over to tell me that my DirectV service is going to be disconnected.

Currently I like in a townhouse. I have no direct view of my roof to verify the first install, so I had to take their word for it that they installed it correctly.

So when directv installed my dish on my roof, they seemed to have install the dish on my neighbors roof area. The installer that is coming to install their service indicated that they will have cut my wires or remove the installed dish to install theirs. This I have no problems with. If something was installed on his property, he is fully correct in removing my install. But he was nice enough to give me a heads up.

So I called directv to see if they could get someone out to move my dish. They we're not being very helpfull for something I think is their fault. "I" didn't install equipment on my neighbors roof.

Directv's response was your SOL.

They wanted to charge me $45 to have someone come out to move the dish. And in addition, they we're in no was going to make any effort to come before my neighbor get's his installed.

So, I'm not really inclined to pay directv to move a dish in the first place when they installed it improperly.

And second, They weren't going to make it before my neighbors install so the first point in mute.

All I know at this point is sometime today my service is going to get disconnected and directv choose to not help in any way so I'm going to ahve to rethink their service.

But I feel the whole thing is their error and should at least came offered to move the dish. Seeing howe they installed it in the wrong place int he first place.

very common practice to use a dish that is already there instead of putting up a new one drilling more holes in the roof.  as an installer myself, it sounds like the guy who came over to install at your neighbor's was just being lazy in not wanting to take the time to put up another dish.

if you live in a town house that you rent, technically the dish could be mounted anywhere so long as the landlord is cool with it.  if you own the townhouse then yeah the dish should have been installed on your roof.  if there are restrictions to where something can or cannot be installed, this should be made known before any work is done by the installer and the customer; granted more so the installer.

as an installer i run into all kinds of sticky situations with customers and landlords; [and people trying to get free stuff from me] therefore probably go overboard with questions before i ever do any work on someone's place.  my install satisfaction rate is d**n near 100%

Directv sharing

Instead of uninstalling the dish couldn't you share it? Have them install a multi 4 LNB instead of a 2 LNB on the dish, 2 lines to each unit would reslove this issue. It's not going to effect either household sharing 1 dish. Or better yet when they come to install the new dish have them install it on your roof and switch the wires to each dish. Pay the guy $20 or give them a beer afterwards.  I doubt they'll move the already installed dish but they will have an extra 1 on hand and be up on the roof already, try sweet talking the installer. Also if you get disconnected make sure to call them and have your account put on HOLD so not to get charged for services your not getting. Or you will be billed every month from now till you do.

Call DirecTV's competitor ( you know - D**H ).  Tell them what's going on with DirecTV.  I'm sure that they will be out ASAP and give you some GREAT deals, as well.  And, NO, I don't work for either company.
