Why does DirecTV have an "F" rating with the BBB? Go to BBB.org and search DirecTV of El Segundo, CA and you can see the failure report for DirecTV for yourself! Why is DirecTV rated at the absolute lowest possible rating, an "F"? I will tell give you a few examples of why!

First off, the account is in my commonlaw wife's name. My phone number was associated with the acount, since I pay the bills. So, her name is on the account, but my checks paty the bills. We called to re-activate our account after a move. We were supposed to get free installation... you know, the 5-star blue-carpet service you see in the ads? Yeah. Let me tell you about that service. The installer came. He told me I would have to pay him to install the dish. I think it was around $50... plus the cost of a bag of cement, which I also have to provide. While I was driving down to the hardware store to get the cement... the DirecTV installer entered my home (without permisssion) and used my restroom. I found the toilet seat up, and urine all over the toilet and floor. Nice. THIS is an example of DirecTV's 5-star service you can expect. Your free installation costs you cash (yes, cash; they would not take a check), and you get your toilet and floor pissed on.

On the first billing cycle, I found that my check had not cleared... and it appeared I was overdrawn! It took a call to my bank to clear it up. According to my bank, DirecTV does not take checks. Instead, they convert your check to an EFT (electronic funds transfer), and basically take the money directly from your account. As a result, your check never clears. I have over a years worth of checks floating around that have never cleared. According to my bank, they have to explain this to many DirecTV customers. I tried to deal with DirecTV right away on this issue... and they refused to simply cash my checks. They refused. As a result, I never know when or if they have received payment.... not unless I want to sit on the phone, scrolling through transaction after transaction, to see if they have LIFTED the money out of my account. With checks, I can simply search by the check number and viola! I can find out if it cleared. But alas... DirecTV doesn't cash checks.

So, here we are a year later... and DirecTV is telling me they didn't receive payment. I called my bank. Of course, I couldn't track anything since they do not cash checks. I put a stop payment on the check, but that did me no good, since they do not cash checks. My bank told me that I could "opt out" of this electronic process by issuing the demand to DirecTV. Thios would force them to process the checks, and I would now be able to track the checks I have issued. Great! So, I called DirecTV and they lied to me. They told me that I cannot opt out. They refused to opt me out. I placed MANY calls to DirecTV, trying to get to their management. All that achieved was getting my number automatically forwarded to their customer service line. They keep irate customers away from DirecTV decision makers. According to my bank, they cannot deny my demand to opt out. Yet, they have done so.

DirecTV reps lie. This was not the first time they have lied to me. The first time was shortly after we activated the account, when I started getting hang-up calls to my cell phone. I traced the phone number and it traced to DirecTV telemarketers. I called up DirecTV to demand that they stop these daily hang-up calls to my cell. They denied that they had given my number to a telemarketing service. The calls continued. I kept calling DirecTV back to complain and demand it stop. At times, some DirecTV reps admitted that they did put me on a telemarketer list. I was told it would take 2 days to get me off the list. Two days later, the calls continued. I called back to DirecTV. They would again deny it all. The calls continued. Then I was told it would take 2 months to get me off the list. At this point, I told them that if the calls continued... I would disconnect the box, urinate on it, and send it back to DirecTV along with a termination notice. Only then did the calls stop. It took a month or so to get it to stop. THIS, good people, is why DirecTV has an "F" rating with the BBB.

After I filed a BBB complaint... I got a call directly from DirecTV. I called back and left a message telling them to F@$& themselves, and go through the BBB process. I told them to not contact me directly any further. I just received final word on my BBB complaint. Because my name doesn't appear on the account... they have refused to deal with it. So... for a year or so, they have communicated with me about this account... apparently violating the privacy of the account holder. They have taken my checks... and have yanked money from my account... but they cannot deal with a BBB complaint?

THAT is why DirecTV has an "F" rating with the BBB.

Do yourself a big favor: for TV, look elsewhere. Dish has a "C" rating. Average. That beats the "F"-rated DirecTV any day of the week!

I am not the only one who has had issues with these clowns. DO a google on DirecTV complaints. Check the BBB rating. See for yourself. I can pretty much guarantee that if you sign up with them and have an issue... expect to be lied to. It happened to me. Multiple times. I had DirecTV customer service reps telling me that my checks had been processed and that they had cleared my bank... while my bank records clearly show not one check has cleared. What do you call that, but a lie?

We should have seen it coming. When they pissed on our home during the installation... we should have realized that they would probably piss on us at a later date too. They did. When our contract expires, we will go to Dish.

The Technician's Perspective

AUTHOR: ac4aq - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, July 01, 2011

I am writing to provide some perpective on the persons not visible to you who bear at least partial responsibility for the deplorable events which occurred during your New/Former Install.

I am a subcontractor for MasTec Advanced Technologies, the installing arm of DirecTV in several locales. My Tech ID is MAVA999957 from Ashland, VA. At least for the next 6 or 7 hours, as I have had enough. So these should be regarded as the remarks of a disgruntled quasi-employee.

While the behaviour of the technician who appeared at your home is absolutely inexcusable, it is a product of the working conditions experienced by subcontractors retained by MasTec Advanced Technologies. Technicians are overbooked each day, given activities which would require 15 to 20 hours to complete in accordance with company protocol with the assumption that a certain percentage will be no line of sight, no show, refused or that the technician will cut corners to save time. Consequently technicians do not have time to go to the toilet before a home visit, much less eat a decent mid-day meal. While I cannot explain his poor toilet marksmanship, (fatigue may have been a factor) I can say that he should have asked permission to use your bathroom and only if absolutely unavoidable.

Also the "Free" installation limitations are described in microscopic print in the adverts, illegible if you have only a standard-definition TV. It is indeed free for many customers, any who can use a roof or wall mounted ODU (dish). However, if the ODU must have a pole mount due to obstructed line of sight or landlord/HOA restrictions there is an additional charge of $75. The technician should have been prepared for this eventuality, with 150 lbs. of readymix concrete and a 2" pole on her/his truck. These come into the category of custom work charges. Today I did an excruciatingly difficult job of fishing a coax into a vaulted cieling, through a sweltering, impassble attic and down a wall so that the customer so that the customer would not have to pay for a SWM system for their HD-DVR. For this I got paid $35 and got excoriated by my sub-manager for taking so long.

It should also be noted that DirecTV is a corporate Russian Nesting Doll, with DirecTV within Mastec Advanced Technologies within the local companies within the subcontractors. Thus if there is a technician who creates a disaster, such as doing something criminal or perverted in a customer's home, there are enough levels of irresponsibility to make a lawsuit a practical impossibility. Thus the deep pockets are effectively insulated from responsibility resulting from their decision to hire practically anyone with a pickup truck and a heartbeat in order to maximize profit rather than maintaining an adequate staff of well-trained, conscientious technicians.

While this corporate culture is certainly despicable, it is hardly unique. It is a product of the venality which has been present throughout history but never more effectively represented than by the syphilitic penes which run today's corporate kleptocracy.

Hope this gives you some insight.

My bill WAS paid

AUTHOR: Mongo Lloyd - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, July 08, 2010

I pay my bills, son. I pay ALL of my bills... and all are paid within one day of being invoiced. I am not a deadbeat, and never have been. But, this isn't about me. This is about DirecTV. The company that was awarded a much deserved "F" rating by the BBB. That's right. An "F". DirecTV... the company you defend, has offended so many, including uninvolved objective third parties... that they earned an "F" rating. Perhaps your feedback might have a little bite, if a simple google search did not reveal thousands of like complaints, from people all over the country.

To further illustrate the low character of this company... I have it in their own words to the BBB that since my name doesn't appear on the account, I have no standing to complain. Then, mere days later, I have DirecTV stating they have a right to maintain my credit card as security on the account. My card was used to pay one bill over the phone when the bill was damaged in the mail. Now, it is securing the entire account! Just like my new phone number ended up being the contact number on the account, after I placed a phone call to them about the account. That's DirecTV. They no longer hane my account info. I invalidated the credit card and will have a new one in a week.

Defend this crud. Chances are, you are probably a shill FOR them. Your defense means little, when anyone can do the google on "directv complaints", and see thousands of complaints... all with common themes. Lying. Theft of money. Telemarketiung abuses. Hell, for that matter, check out how many time3s these clowns have been sued for their behavior recently. i did.

your bill wasn't paid, your service was interrupted, yeah it "magically" came back on when you pulled out your credit card bc you PAID THE BILL!  also you don't own the rights to your ppv movies, as you don't with any company. if your services are interrupted, you can't watch recordings bc you have no dvr service.

UPDATE: DirecTV is in control of your DVR!

AUTHOR: Mongo Lloyd - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, July 05, 2010

I forgot to mention a few other things in my initial report.

DirecTV has control over, and exerts control over, your DVR. That's right. All those PPV programs you have purchased that you paid for and have recorded to your DVR.... think you own the right to view them? WRONG! When the payment dispute previously described took place, DirecTV apparently didn't like my response. Their response? I woke up the next morning, turned on the TV to watch the news, and found that the DVR box would not power up. That's right. They didn't just suspend the service. They turned off the whole box, preventing ANY use, even to watch those videos you have already paid for. Sure, the moment you call up and give those fascists your credit card info, the power magically comes on again. What happened next? They LIED about disabling the box. They claimed that there was a service interruption. Yeah. Right. An interruption that just magically happened when the dispute began and ended when payment was received. THIS is what DirecTV customers can expect from DirecTV, should they have the audacity to dispute anything. They simply disable your entire box and shut you down. Period. Sieg Heil!

RIpoffreport apparently has about 500+ other reports from disgruntled customers and former employees of DirecTV. I have scrolled through many, and find that I am not the only one who was billed for a free installation. I am not the only one who has been lied to. I am not the only one who has had DirecTV going into their accounts, instead of simply cahsing their checks. Read for yourself people! 500+ complaints here. An "F" rating at the BBB. Complaints at Consumer Affairs (google it). There are SO MANY complaints, there is even a directvcomplaintsdotorg website devoted to exposing these cruds. Read that page. You will see striking similarities to my complaints.
