I have been with DirecTV since 2004 however, the past two years I kept getting billed for things I never ordered. On those items I called Directv and they removed those charges. But, after dealing with them on so many issues I started looking for another satelite TV provider. The problem I am complaining about today started back in August 2014; when I called DirecTV because I could not get one of the NFL channels (I've paid for). I was on the phone with them approximately 1:30 hours. During this time the person was trying to up sale me on a new Genie (HD receiver); she said it would be FREE! I said absolutely FREE! She said absolutely FREE! So I accepted the upgrade; tech came out and installed equipment. As stated earlier I was already unhappy with DirecTV and searching for new provider. As of January 17, 2015 I installed Dish TV and canceled DirecTV. When speaking to a gentleman with Customer Service (DirecTV) that day; he informed me I would be breaking a two year contract. I said I never signed a two year contract; I've been with you since 2004. He said when I upgraded to new equipment in August 2014 is when the two-year contract started. I informed him the lady I spoke to in August was to get a channel fixed, I did not request the upgrade; she up saled me on it and said it would be absolutely FREE and she NEVER disclosed that there would be a two year contract with the upgrade. I WAS NEVER INFORMED I WOULD BE COUGHT UP IN A TWO-YEAR CONTRACT!!! The lady who up saled me did not inform me (at any time during the hour and a half on phone) nor did the technician who installed the new equipment inform me I would be stuck in a two-year contract. If I would have known about the two-year contract, I never would have accepted the new upgraded equipment because I was already dissatisfied with DirecTV and looking for another provider. They are charging me $380.00 for the cancellation of this so called two-year contract. I have disputed this charge through DirecTV but, they will not remove the charge. They said they will charge my credit card on file by February 6, 2015. All of the customer service representatives I spoke to (three) will not remove the charge. I have explained to them thoroughly that DirecTV never disclosed to me (at any time) that I would be caught up in a two-year contract and that DirecTV failed in their responsibilities to me. If this information would have been disclosed to me I would not have upgraded the equipment (receiver); BECAUSE I WAS DISSATISFIED WITH THEM ALREADY AND WAS ALREADY LOOKING FOR NEW PROVIDER!

I want the cancellation fee of $380.00 removed from my account OR refunded if they charge my credit card. As mentioned above, they will charge my credit card (on file) by February 6, 2015.

Everyone knows about directv equipment contracts

AUTHOR: Hoodlem - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, March 12, 2015

if you have been with DTV since 2004 and you have not figured out thier scam I feel for you. Here's the think Americans, you have to ask questions, and read the paperwork your signing. Trust me then I say that if you would have read the paperwork from the installation tech that came to your house you would have seen the equipment contract agreement. Stop expecting companies to hold your hand. Read it for yourself. Don't get me wrong I had signed up with DTV back in 2006, and had to stop my direct payment, but never have got new equipment as I have read the fine print. Instead I have the equipment maintenance plan. So if equipment breaks its on them, and my law it will not allow the contract. See you need to be smarter them corp America. At the end you need to read what you sign. Sorry to be so cold, but it's the truth.

Funnier!!

AUTHOR: Kim - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Dear Funnier!

The three customer service reps all stated the recorded phone call between myself and the lady helping me on August 2014 did not mention a two year contract!!! That same customer service representative I spoke to to rebut the charge also, said Directv would have pushed that call forward to another representative to also inform me that I would be in a two-year contract. That never happened!! She also said the technician should have informed me as well. Again, that never happened!!

As I stated in my original blog, I had been with Directv since 2004 and would have been the last time I read the initial contract. As far as knowing that when they force an equipment upgrade down my throat, that it would automatically put me in a two year contract, I honestly did not know. And, Directv failed in their due dilligence to inform me I would be stuck in a two-year contract.

As far as my memory is concerned, it is quit clear, concise and spot on. Check the phone recording.

To rebut your answer regarding trying to get out of paying this bill: If I had been informed I would be stuck in a two-year contract, I NEVER would have taken the upgraded equipment! It is quit clear to me now what Directv's tactic was. They new I was upset with them and I had mentioned to them many times prior that I would be looking for another company (check the phone conversations). So they pushed an equipment upgrade to lock me in....

Oh yes, last but not least you attacked my honesty. I am an 23 year veteran of the Oklahoma City Fire Department. I assure you sir/maadam I am a very honest person and would pay this bill as I pay all my bills,  only if Directv would have disclosed I would be stuck in a two-year aggreement and it was a legitimate charge.

Best Regards

Funny...

Funny how being put into a 2 year contract is STANDARD with ANY service provider when you get new equipment. Just like your cellphone!!Im sorry to say this but HOW can ANYONE take YOUR word that you were not informed? YOU are attempting to get out of paying the ETF. YOU would say ANYTHING in order to NOT pay it. So I doubt the honesty of your tale due simply to the fact that YOU DONT BELIEVE YOU OWE THEM!!! Odds are that you WERE informed of this but like EVERY person who goes online, YOU CANT RECALL the entire conversation word for word. Meaning the MOST HONEST answer YOU could give is that YOU DONT REMEMBER if they told you about the new contract. Or that YOU dont recall the exact wording used. Now the great thing for them is that those calls are recorded. So if three different people told YOU no you still have to pay it, then odds are that they listened to the recording and found that YOU were indeed informed of the contract renewal and that YOU agreed to it. The REAL stickler is this, YOU AGREED TO ALL OF THIS when YOU signed the contract the first time!! Go read it and YOU WILL SEE FOR YOURSELF that it states that if you are out of contract and get new equipment then you will be under another 2 year contract in order to get that new equipment.
