I moved from my previous address and needed to cancel Directv as I was moving into a condo and they have cable and do not allow satellite dishes.
I have a DVR under contract and needed to return that so I would not be charged for the equipment. Simple enough because they send you a return kit to do that at no cost. Pretty neat, huh? Weel, what a nightmare begins...
I phoned them on June 29 to have them cancel my subscription on July 15 as we would be moving those last two weeks of the month and won't need Directv at the old address. I ordered the return kit and gave them the address of our new condo to send the kit to me for return of my equipment under contract.
I was told that since I have equipment under contract I would be charged a cancellation fee on my final bill. I was also told I could send a dispute to the address in Colorado to see if they would waive that since my association does not allow satellite.
The woman said when I receive my final bill to settle and send the letter to Colorado to see if they will waive the fee and refund my money.
Well....I never received a final bill, or a shipping kit to return my equipment! Then out of nowhere I got a charge on my bank account for $532.10!! I was furious! I called the bank to find out how they got my bank card information and they said I must have given to Directv. I knew I had not because this account was new and I did not sign up anywhere to use that card ongoing.
Well, I called Directv and was told when I paid my bill with that card, it allowed them to keep it on file and use it whenever they needed to get a payment! Can you believe that!! All I did was make one payment and they could use my card anytime they felt like it.
I got a call from the people who bought my house asking me what they should do with the box they received from Directv!? What a bunch of idiots, they sent my return kit to my OLD address!! No wonder I didn't recieve a final bill or return kit, it went to my old address! Wow, now I know how they bang people for extra money!
Well, I still have not been able to recover anything from Directv, they claim my account was terminated for non-payment at the end of August, a month and a half AFTER I asked the account be closed. They will not refund the extra month and a half they charged on my bill (and I personally drove by my old address at the beginning of August and saw a Directv truck in the driveway hooking up NEW service) and they are billing me for August as well!! I can't believe this is happening.
I wish there were an agency to go to to fix this issue, but who do you call?? I have been told I will get my equipment money back, $200, but just this month I got an invoice from Directv and it showed a credit balance of $212!!!! I cannot believe they can do this.
I hope this helps people who are thinking of swtiching to Directv, think hard about it, I don't think Sunday ticket is worth this kind of hassle.
