Directv has placed several unauthorized charges on my account. I've been charged for Playboy TV and several adult movies, which I'm positive were never ordered. When I called, they basically told me I did order them and that their system doesn't make mistakes (despite several known mistakes on my bill).

Other mistakes include a charge for a free trial of HBO/Showtime/Starz and three $5 phone charges for a UFC fight that was ordered online (not on the phone), but did not work correctly. I also suddenly have a charge for an adult move and a UFC fight dated from nearly a year ago, which they said was never paid for. I've paid the balance of this bill on time and in full every month.

I normally view my account activity online, but after examining my paper statements, I've realized I've been charged for Playboy TV since April and there are several adult movies that were never ordered, but I was charged for. These did not show in my account activity online, which I feel is deceptive. When I questioned the rep on the phone about proof that I ordered these things or even the name of the adult movies (they are listed as PPV and a #, not by name), they could not produce this information and basically did not care, telling me that the charges were valid.

It's obvious to me that they are engaged in deceptive billing practices and that their customer service reps are trained to refuse account credits even when they are in error (I was also hung up on by a rep, which I believe is because they are also trained not to stay on the phone with customers for very long). They may have overcharged me and made more money in the short term, but by doing this they will eventually lose customers in droves. I've seen plenty of other complaints, some very similar to mine, regarding unauthorized charges (especially for adult movies, which I think they use on purpose because of the stigma associated with them), and I will do my best to complain anywhere I can against this company. They should not be allowed to do business like this.

if they are not then that is why they were not charged sooner. if the receiver is not plugged into a phone line then directv has no way of knowing of any ppv charges on the card til it's either plugged into a phone line or you send the card/receiver back to directv. once it does a call back the ppv charges are then pulled from the card and billed to the account. directv can actually look at the movies and tell you exactly which receiver they were ordered from if they were ordered via the remote control. the ppv titles are also not listed to protect your privacy, it just lists the channel it was. adult movies are the most disputed ppv charges there are because there is usually a spouse or a teenager in the house who won't admit to ordering them. sometimes it is even a visitor  who is housesitting and orders them. i am willing to bet your boyfriend or husband has been watching the adult programming and won't admit to it. when i had cable my husband was ordering adult movies and telling me that he didn't so i assumed the same thing you did, he wouldn't do that and it was a mistake. many years later, he admitted to it. it's very likely that this is the case in your situation as well. most men like adult movies and don't want their wives or girlfriends to know because they know the woman won't like it and would be upset.
