I just moved and wanted to transfer service with Dish. First tech comes out and says that there is no "line of sight" to their satellite and that I'll have to cancel service. Ok, I call and the lady on the phone tells me that before having to cancel a Field Manager has to come within 72 hrs and confirm, otherwise I'll be charged for breaking my contract.

Nobody contacts me or shows up. I call again, and this time I'm able to set up an appointment for the Field Manager to come and check it out. In the meantime, we're missing all our shows and sports games I follow.

Finally, the second guy comes and indeed confirms that there is no signal, and that I would have to cancel. So I call, and they proceed to tell me that it's my fault if I moved and that I still have to pay $150 for breaking my contract!

So basically, one can't move for the lenght of the contract, or has to somehow check if their new home has a "line of sight" to their satellite!

If the reason for breaking the contract is out of my hands, and THEY can't get a signal, I shouldn't be held accountable for breaking a contract that I have no use for.

And the guy I was talking on the phone tells me "I'm in the Dish President's office and he can't waive the fee". Give me a break! That's no way to run a business!

1drum,

Please understand that we're never able to guarantee a line of sight for your signal if you move to a new residence after we were able to establish it at your original home.  If our technician was able to get you going where you initially were and the contract is signed, the terms of it need to apply even if you move.  It costs our company money each time we roll a truck out for a work order, such as your opening installation of service at your initial residence.  Please email me your account number at michael.lemar@dish.com so I can review your information and help you further.

Dish Mover™ Because you HAVE to take it with you.

So, in your world, life is completely predicable and no one ever needs to move unexpectedly? Do responsible adults in your world factor in the ability to watch Breaking Bad from outer space when choosing a new home for their family?

In our world we like to base our home buying decisions on things like school availability, affordability and other mundane stuff that I'm sure would bore someone from your world.  A cool fact about our world is that the non-dickish companies recognize these priorities and have no problem canceling contracts that they can't actually service. Direct TV and 24 Hour Fitness are two examples.  These companies seem to realize that people don't move maliciously.

Your world sounds fascinating.  Please tell us more.

Had no idea that some people had nothing better to do with their life than get condiscending on Ripoffreport.com and use a lot of caps. Lol! I'm a bit sad for you, really.

Well, I guess I have to brake it down for you, maybe all the caps are clouding your brain. And I'll try to keep short since I do have a life and no time to waste:

This is RipoffReport.com and I'm reporting that DISH Network's CONTRACTS are a RIPOFF! (do the caps help?)

So if there's anyone out there who is thinking about signing a contract with Dish, you better not have any unforseen events happen in your life that require you to move. If you end up getting a divorce, or you lose your job and can't afford rent, you better check if your new appartment faces southeast and that there is no vegetation around blocking the line of sight, because even if they are not able to get a signal for no fault of your own, you'd be charged an early termination fee. And that, my friends, is a RIPOFF!

typical

Typical response from a typical consumer. Instead of admitting that it was YOU who made the choice you automaticaly attack the rebuttal. When are consumer such as yourself going to realize that YOU are screwing yourself?? They cable company had ZERO part in the choices YOU have made. Why would you expect them to do anymore for you then they are supposed to by the terms and conditions of your contract THAT YOU SIGNED!!!!!

Where I work for has no bearing on WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AS A CONSUMER. I dont work for any cable company. But my job does have HEAVY contract signing. I wont let a customer get away with blanket signing as YOU have done. I take the time to explain each and every part of what they are signing. This keeps problems down. MY customers are fully versed in what THEIR part of the contract states. If there is ANY issue, we dont sign the contract until that issue is resolved. But enough about ME. This is about YOU.

Yes you are acting like a child. youre stomping your feet and threatening to hold your breath. Life isnt fair. As an ADULT one would think you have found this out already. So knowing this, and knowing that YOU signed a contract, you STILL hop on a site like RoR and spill your perverted view of the world all over the web. Yes, its NOT fair that you have to pay a ETF because you no longer get their services. But you DID sign a contract and are held to the terms and conditions of that contract. In the future I would suggest that YOU READ what YOU SIGN!!

But Im a betting man, and Im betting you will continue to play the victim. No amount of logic or reason will allow you to accept that YOU have done this to YOURSELF. The cable company will ALWAYS be the big ole mean corporation beating up on a poor defensless customer, atleast in your eyes. REALITY though is much different. They are NOT being MEAN to you. They are ONLY following the conditions YOU AGREED TO and nothing more.

Do you even have the faintest idea what a "contract" is?

AUTHOR: Ken - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 10, 2014

It's a WRITTEN agreement that both parties are obligated to live up to. They're living up to their end, YOU aren't.

When I first signed on with them many years ago, they had no pro rated contracts and I paid over $500 UPFRONT for installation and equipment.  Perhaps that's what you would have preferred to do..right.  You can't have it both ways.

"So I call, and they proceed to tell me that it's my fault if I moved and that I still have to pay $150 for breaking my contract!"

They told it like it is and you DID break the contract...entirely your own doing.

BTW, you are WHINING.

What you fail to realize is that the 2 year contract covers their initial expenses at your old location..

AUTHOR: Ken - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 10, 2014

It's the installation and equipment providing charge pro-rated over 24 months.  It has NOTHING to do with whether you have or don't have service at your new location.  It's an obligation YOU agreed to when you signed the contract.

They are NOT ripping you off, only holding you to the WRITTEN contract.

Their satellite is necessarily in the south horizon, as that is where it stays in synchronous orbit with the earths turning.

It can't be located anywhere else, and when there is no line of sight to the satellite, service CANNOT occur.

You were NOT ripped off.  BTW, had they been able to install your new service, you would have been signed up for a new two year contract with the same early termination fee.

Nope, I don't work for Dish, but have used its service since its inception and find it pretty good service, but I HAVE read my contract (before signing).

Dish Network is dishonest

AUTHOR: 1drum - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 10, 2014

To whomever rebutted my original report:

"Stop acting like a child"? That shows the level of professionalism of the company you (must) work for.

People move, that's a fact of life. A company shouldn't hold customers hostage if they are not able to provide a service for no fault of mine.

When I mentioned I was moving, nobody said that they could check if the new location had service, and plus, how are you going to check if there is a line of sight on a 3rd floor balcony in a secured building when there are tenants still living there? I'm not going to change my life choices around what dish can and cannot offer.

Give me a break! Bottom line, if you can't provide a service, then you shouldn't charge people for it. That's buisness 101. The Internet company I was using doesn't provide service in this area, and the discontinued the contract. Seems the logical and honest thing to do. Now, go get a life, buddy!

contract

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 10, 2014

It IS your fault in the fact that this is where YOU chose to move. Little known fact, you can get an appointment for them to go to ANY prospective property and have them do a service check. YOU did not do this, so you will be charged the ETF. Why is it that when ppl like YOU chose to move WITHOUT checking for service ALWAYS blame the company?? THEY did not FORCE you to move. When YOU signed YOUR contract, THEY were under the impression YOU were going to be there for the term of your contract. STOP blaming other ppl for what IS your fault. THEY did not chose the place in which YOU have chosen to live. This is ALL on you. STOP acting like a child and pay what you LEGALLY owe.
