it is illegal and demoralizing to its employees and previous employees. dollar general takes as good healthy person and turns them into people who are disabled mentally and physically. with in a matter of years of being a employee. I know for a fact that dg will not listen. something has to be done. if there is anyone out there that is willing to help, i will be your assistant. you will win the case. if there anyone out there that has found a lawyer willing to take on this company please post it here so others like you can join in. i won my unemployemnt after four months and proving my innocence. but in that time i lost everything but my home.
and now i cant get a job if i tell the truth that i was fired. other companies do not want dollar general rejects. they dont understand that we have been subject to lies. they prey upon others wanting the store managers jobs and know that the associates are willing to tell fibs just to move up. i havnt met many people who have been in management with dollar general that did not go to the dr many times, even more than they have in their whole life, after they worked for dg. they have been disabled, lost everything, cannot support their families, go into severe depression, are hurt so bad that they will never be able to perform a normal job. they have had everything stripped from them, including me. now i want to fight back and there is no one to help.
no one that is big enough to take on this company. if you are reading this and you are smart enough to be researching the company that you have applied at run as fast as you can. do not stop at dollar general.. i was subject to lie, humilitation, backstabbing, and then to say i violated a policy. so they fire me. but i proved that i didnt do what they said. but thier answer was no you are a no rehire. i will not trust another company again. its been almost a year now. and i am no better than the day i was fired. it stays fresh on my mind everyday is how can i help myself and others who have worked for dg. i just know there is someone out there who will take this case and run with it. you will have thousands of former employees who will testify. and even employees that still work there., thanks for your time and patience.

Response to report # 774889

But to address Virginia, report 774889. I am looking into what can be done about this company and about the possibility of a Class Action Lawsuit. Dollar General is about to go to court in May for unfair wages, overtime pay, in May and there is a link to the attorneys that are taking on this case. Google Dollar General Litigation and you will find it. Don't know how much good it will do but it is worth a shot. All of us present and former employees need to band together for the sake of ourselves and for the other poor schmucks that stumble into employment with this company and end up injured or sick. They should not be able to get away with this!! If we can figure out another or easier forum for us all to chat and get this together, we need to do so ASAP!! All you disgruntled DG employees respond and lets do this thing!!
#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds
I feel your pain...literally

i was there for four years, and took two sick days. I lasted through three managers before they forced me to be 3rd key and then assistant manager. I didn't ask for the job; they just made me take it because there was no one else. The last manager we had--that corporate chose--lived on the other side of the state, and so she couldn't make it every day. The assistant manager--that corporate chose too, mind you--came to work drunk constantly. That meant that I opened and closed the store most days. And more than that, i waited until eleven some nights to be sure the truck got there. A single girl student in a store alone at night because the managers couldn't be bothered. Sure.
Finally, we started to make a profit, and things were going well. The manager they chose ran off with three days worth of cash from the safe. I didn't work her shift and had no clue about it. I just knew that the money was deposited at the bank before I got there on days she worked. That was how things were supposed to go. As soon as corporate came, she and the other manager quit and left me holding the bag, clueless. They kept me for another few weeks, saying that they had proof that I wasn't involved-they watched the tapes and knew I wasn't there. If I was involved, would I have come back to work? After three weeks of limbo, they 'terminated' me and then spent a month harrassing me over the phone with calls threatening to prosecute me for shoplifting. I argued them up and down--they can see on the tapes I had nothing to do with it-I didn't even know about it, and it broke my heart that they would do that to me after all the work I put in. Stupid me, I actually LIKED that job, and in my naivety, wanted to help that store make it. Once it did, they put me on the chopping block.
That's the only black mark on my employment record, and I will never forgive them for it.
