dollar general gave my all to be left in the dark walsenburg, Colorado

  Our community was very excited to receive a new store; I read all about this dollar general store in order to be informed for my interview when the job fair became available.  How dumb was I not to check with the bbb first. Or to check with the ripoff report.  I read only the dollar general web site info.  They sold themselves pretty good.  When the store was being built, I took the nice, hard working gentlemen drinks and snacks.  I was hired after the job fair.  My first day of work was the very first day of non-communication of what was to be expected of us.  I was able to get the information I needed to find out what excruciating work was ahead of us.  9 days of hard labor; clearing out semi trucks of all the needed material to set up the store.  The manager in charge of setting up the store was very unorganized; arguments and blowups in front of all the employees.  I was intimidated by the loud out bursts and name calling; but eventually we came to our soft opening... which was very embarassing.  The computers were still downloading all the items to be scanned and we were unable to sell half the items that the customers wanted.  We were told to just let them know the store was not fully equiped to sell???
    
   The manager that selected me to be his assistant did not tell me he was leaving after 6 days of training.  I had to learn all about that store on my own the next few weeks and never heard from a Regional Manager; District Manager or Support Services, until I called.  I left 112 messages for my  district manager with out answer; his excuse was that he never answers his messages left on his work desk machine, only his cell, (like I knew that)!

   The store opened May 5th of 09 and I met the district manager just before Christmas; I received a bashing of yells and name calling and accusations of him having to baby sit me, because my team and I were behind on setting up things in the store.  Keep in mind I was hired as the assistant manager and was not provided a manager to the store until 2 months later...who quite because his girl friend left him, and he couldn't handle the stress and personal problems together.  I tried my best to take care of the Managers obligations (which I was not hired to do or trained to do) but I did my best to uphold that position and mine without complaining; I was at work every day; covered every ones call offs; trained my team according to the dollar general guide book; and never missed one day of work for a whole year, or was never late.  I was what I believe an asset to my community and to dollar general; so I thought.

   The store went through 4 managers the whole year I was there; I have many questions about that one also.  I was let go because my manager retaliated against me for informing our customers of a complaint phone number because he was verbally abusive and threw items in there bags.  I heard complaints daily from my customers about how cold and rude he was.  Nothing was done...but he managed to make my work experience he**, by changing my schedule... saying I was obligated to work out of town at another store location, when I did not inquire the position, and he knew I did not have a car.  He would embarass me in front of customers; and humiliate me in front of my co-workers; he gave my duties and authority to another co-worker without informing me; and the communication barrier led to mishaps that could have been avoided.  The regional and district manager could not believe all of my complaints and just did not want to here it, so I was let go.  

   I do not advise any one to work for dollar general; not only for there lack of support and appreciation, but for their lack of being involved with what is really going on in their stores!!
