My renters just told me that Duke energy meter reader said he didn't like the meter on the house, so he cut it off - top and bottom - with no communication, notificaiton, no nothing - not to me, the home owner and not to the renters - no door hanger, no email, no mail notification - nothing -

Here it is December in INDIANA - their food has spoiled, they have little kids, and they have no electricity, no heat, no abiliity to cook, no water now, no nothing - absolutely shameful behavior and practices!

and I have to spend the day tomorrow re-wiring the service so a new box can be put in.

Called Duke ENergy and first - took FOREVER to talk to a person - then basically got the RIPOFF "Gee,I guess they'll have to bring another one out once you have it wired - ......

There is NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING on their website that describes they can do anything like that - not even remotely - without at least 10 days notice - and THAT is on the Ohio site - nothing on the Indiana site at all......

Fraudulent company, fraudulent, meter-readers - don't have a heart for ANYBODY and either don't HAVE well-defined processes or don't FOLLOW them - if there was a way to switch electric providers, we would do it - HATE having to work with them - they do whatever they want and the customer suffers -

To top it off - this comes only two weeks after devastating tornadoes RIPPED through our area.....they didn't come near the rental house and the meter was in no way damaged - the person looked at it - decided they didn't like what they saw and -the meter just went away......

Well, Robert......my mother-in-law is the owner of the property - she pays the electric bill for the renters and includes the bill in the rental agreement. All communications from Duke are supposed to go to HER and not to the renters.

They were completely paid up - Duke came by, didn't like the kind of meter installed, and took it off. I am quite aware that they send out a LINEMAN and not a METER REDER, etc........ to do th work - don't be so quick to assume that I don't know what I am talking about. Duke didn't like the meter and took it off - they wanted to upgrade it, as I found out later - and this was the tactic that they used - my mother-in-law is an intelligent astute woman and would have known if anybody had contacted her about that meter.

She did not even have to PAY to have the meter re-installed - they just did not communicate with her....and left a young renter family with nowhere to turn for over a week. Fair? no.

This looks like a case of the Renters not telling you the full story.

As this "meter reader" story is very suspicious.   Just based on what you wrote you are saying that this company has bands of rogue employees going around house to house and cutting off meters they don't like.  Does that make sense?  Of course not..so there has to be a more logical answer.

First of all they state there was no communication or notice.  So how did they know that it was a meter reader who didn't like the meter?

Next, removing a Meter is done by an Electrician not some minimum wage "Meter Reader".   Not only do they not have the skills if they are reading meters they don't have the equipment to do this.  I have seen what is required to actually remove a meter and believe me had he/she just gone up to the meter with a pair of scisors as you seem to be insinuating they would have been in for the "shock of their life". 

Then we get to the question of why would you have to re-wire if as you again are insinuating that nothing was wrong with it?

Also, what does removing an electric meter have to do with them having no water?
