I'm the only one in my family with a computer. My family doesn't have access to the good deals online so I shop for them. I created accounts for them through ebates. They had a 10.00 referral program going. This made already good deals even better. So for instance if my mom wanted material from Joann's, I would tell her....this is what is on sale plus you get 10.00 off through ebates. I would always pass along the savings to my family becausee they don't have a lot of money. WELL KNOW I'M SCREWED. MONTHS later ebates decides that is fraud and deletes the money out of my account. THEY COULD HAVE let me know because WAY BEFORE MONTHS LATER. I know there are some things my family would NOT have purchased if they did NOT get the 10.00 off. Dylan from ebates could have cared less and laughed at me. I told him I could provide names, addresses and phone numbers for everyone that I purchased for. His response---we aren't in the business of losing money. LOSING MONEY??? IS HE KIDDING ME! His paycheck is probably 100 times what any of my family makes... hence the reason they can't even afford computers. I told him if he felt it was fraud then he could have least warned me without emptying my account first and again... his mind was made up and he didn't even care one bit. I was a very good customer and would never do anything to break rules on purpose let alone do anything fraudulent. I'M EXTREMELY upset and frustrated.

#4 Consumer Comment

They haven't changed a bit

AUTHOR: Dinesh - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 19, 2009

They did the same with me. I helped few friends by creating accounts for them. I have read their terms and conditions and secured a copy of it which no where says that there is a limit of one account per household. The only place where they mentioned household was for gift cards. I haven't read the terms and conditions thoroughly but being close to a lawyer I know that fine print is not supposed to be read extensively. If I was doing something wrong they should have identified it at the time I did that and not after I made purchases from that account. Ebates! do you want to tell us that you could notice that later when you had to pay but not before that? All my friends know about Ebates now and they were happy that something like this existed. I have updated them with this info and now they regret for time I wasted on ebates. I guess that is how Mr Dylan gets his paycheck, by getting commission from sellers and not paying to users. BTW I had more than 30 bucks before referral commissions in different accounts. You think I would buy that much stuff in order to get 5 bucks of commission?

File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau

You can do this at bbb.com and it is easy to do. If you have a strong case and it sounds like you do, then this is usually effective, when you can't get it resolved yourself. But you must stick to the facts and get your emotions out of the way as much as possible (this isn't easy but reread and revise your case before you send it after you've calmed down becuase you'll get emotional typing it out).

Stick to the facts that this was not disclosed in the terms and conditions...don't dwell on what could have been done or what should have been done....stick to whether they are honoring the terms and conditions of their offer or not. It sounds like you simply helped your friends setup an account and make purchases and they have not followed through on their advertised offer.

Finally, when you do have a legitimate case, be respectful but persistent about it so that they know you are not going away until it's resolved.

As an aside, try (((competitor's name redacted))). In my opinion, their customer service is much faster and better and you don't get boilerplate responses that don't even acknowledge your question or problem.

Hope this helps.

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome. FRUSTRATED

AUTHOR: Tara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 30, 2007

I tried to get my family members the absolute best deal. if this was against the rules then I should have been notified! I was NOT notified at all. no email. nothing. just my account was emptied! No explanation until I wrote them asking where the money in my account went to! Since ebates only issues checks every 3 or 4 months. all the savings I passed on the my family members. I'm now screwed out of. Since they KNOW I did not intentionally abuse the system, I feel my account should be replaced. It is frustrating that there is NO communication and something that I had been doing for months all the sudden becomes abuse with no warning, no communication, no nothing.

It wasn't like I was trying to hide anything. when I wanted to know where my money was.....I told them exactly what I had been doing and offered to get them any information they needed.

Ebates does not care about making things right with their customers. Just be warned. if you use ebates. you might check your account one day and find it emptied without notification! Hopefully, after this situation they will change their process and at least let customers know why and when they empty an account.

Response From Ebates

AUTHOR: Dylan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 30, 2007

Dear Rip-Off Report and Members,

Even though Tara did not intend to break any rules of our Refer-A-Friend program, we still have to enforce the terms that are agreed to by all Ebates members upon signing up.

As Tara states in her report, she created several accounts, using one computer, and making all of the purchases herself.

Our referral program is designed for members to tell their friends about our company, and then their friends can sign-up and create their own accounts. When the friend makes a purchase and becomes an active Ebates member, a bonus is then earned.

In this case, Tara is completing the whole process herself, then selling the items she buys back to the person that she is creating an account for. This is considered an abuse of our program. I recently was able to speak with her on the phone about this, and explain the situation. Ebates does not issue warnings in cases of abuse. Tara expected to receive a warning and the bonus money, but unfortunately we cannot accommodate that request.

Sincerely,

Dylan Campopiano
Ebates
