I can not believe that these people electronically debited my account of $159.95. Who in their right mind would authorize a company to debit their account of that much money for a PREpaid debit card. It is unbelievable.

I called the company and asked what it was all about. They were very snotty with me. I even asked them why they were. They must get 1,000 of calls an hour because of this.

Someone is becoming very rich. I never authorized anyone to debit my checking account. I have already filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. Not that it will do much good, but someone needs to investigate this illegal activity.

Any suggestions from anyone, no comments on how stupid I was to even look at any information about this company.

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!

HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO:

Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.

According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days.

If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges.

Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent!

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!

Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/controller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get.

And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state.

Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was. Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth.

If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers. If you are just calling by phone, the above tactics should still work. The bank can easily fax or mail to you the Federal Regulation E dispute form.

CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD

If the charge was to your credit card (not debit card, check card, or checking account), contact the credit card company as soon as possible to request a dispute form. Consumers usually have a little longer to dispute fraudulent credit card charges (up to 6 months), but it is better to act right away. In this type of situation, credit card disputes are usually successful since fraudulent companies often won't contest the disputed charge. In rare cases, credit card companies will review disputes, but refuse to reverse the charges. If this occurs, complain to a manager and let them know you will be filing a report here.

Remember Don't let them get away with it! Make sure they make the Rip-off Report .. The more Reports filed on a Company or individual, the more likely it is that the authorities, media and attorneys will want to take action.

And good luck Let us know how you do!

Same thing happened to me

AUTHOR: Mimi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 17, 2008

I came to find out if you apply for a payday advance loan, which I did. One particular site is partners with EDP reporting also known as "starter credit direct".

Upon applying for this payday advance loan, which by you submitting your routing number and bank account number and electronic signature for the loan to be processed, expecting the payday advance loan, the company submits your information for a started credit card and charges you a registration fee.

Upon seeing a $ 99.00 charge I also called my bank- Bank of America. The fraud department notified me since I submitted my banking account numbers for this advance loan they had the right to this money and I had notified them I did not give my personal authorization for them to take my money for a credit card, especially a card whcih can only be used at thier online shopping site.

I somehow got hold of the company representative at EDP at the # 800-430-0672 and also sent them an email. They contacted me back.

I was told by the company as long as I complete a cancellation form ( which you can find at www.edpreportingform.com - you will need your Conf# key code number and your email address - the email address you used to apply for the so-called payday advance loan) within 5 days of receiving my bank account statemnt showing proof they took my $ 99.99 and fax it to them at 818-487-0634, I shoud receive my refund in 30 days by check in the mail.

I have just faxed them the cancellation contract from their site and my bank statement, hopefully this is the last straw with them.

Also, there is another scam of applying for a payday advance loan and then they use your information to submit it for a magazine subscription, which is $ 19.95. I am now pursiuing them.

I hope this information works.

Just make sure you try and get your confirmation key number from the EDP company.

Good Luck! :)

Name Change!

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 09, 2008

Through a coworker in my office I heard that this company has changed their name to StarterCreditDirect. The phone number is the same and she got the same run around everyone else got but luckily her bank alerted her to the pending charge before they assessed it to her account.

AUTHOR: Bridgett - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 23, 2006

Once again the complaints seem to be all the same in one way or another we have nothing to hide are address is in plain view. All the complaints I've read doesn't say anything about maybe rushing or speed reading through the terms and conditions or does it. Anyway SIR we are always willing to work with the LOCAL AUTHORITIES to resolve any such abuse concerning our website and getting the refund back to the person whom didn't righteously apply for a prepaid debit card.
Thank you for you concern and input have a nice day!!

Do You Want Us All To Go Back And COUNT The Number Of Complaints Filed?

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 22, 2006

One more time, YOU need to read the complaints filed here. Not ONE of them wanted anything to do with your company's debit card and were tricked into verifying information they thought was for something else entirely. I am not personally involved in this, but can see how easily it might happen. If none of you have been ripped off by this company have not done so, you should consider filing complaints with the actual company you were attempting to do business with. That might put the skids to this rip off quickly and efficiently. Good luck.

YOUR STILL NOT GETTING IT. THIS IS DONE ELECTRONICALLY THROUGH THE COMPUTER

AUTHOR: Bridgett - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 22, 2006

Not one, but two, oh then there's three. The application is done electronically through your computer at your home and we do have that proof, this is why we suggest that whom ever go to their local polce dept and file a fraudulent complaint if in fact they are not the person whom sat down and voluteered to submit their personel information on the debit prepaid application they was applying for. Very few either refuse to capture the criminal whom may have committed a fraudulent act or just refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.
By the way I do not find it necessary to seek employment else where as long as our company continues to comply with the procedures and laws that govern us I will continue my employment here, but thank you anyway nothing personal.

But not ALL of these complaints are based on not reading what they are signing. If your company hasn't changed it's "sneak" set up, you should suggest they do so now. If they don't, you may be looking for a job soon. Good luck to everyone here getting their refunds.

Rebuttal to Company Response

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 30, 2006

I have no doubt that EDebitPay has all of the personal information that was "required" in order to debit my account. It's how they got the information that is dubious.

I have previously filed a report on this site, stating that my personal information which was willingly given for a Premier Credit Card application was misappropriated.
I know that the Premier Card and the pre-paid Acclaim Debit card that I did not apply for are somehow connected because a link for each was in a single subsequent email I received.

Now let's supppose for just a moment that everything is on the level. And that I did actually fill out an application, and that I just don't recall doing so. This raises a very obvious question:

Where exactly is my Acclaim Pre-paid Debit Card?
I have to date not received any further correspondence form EDebitPay, LLC.

Sincerely,
Cornwall on Hudson, NY

Complaint Classification: Selling Practices

Complaint Description - Posted 1-11-2006

On 3 Jan 2006 my account was debited for $159.95 for a card I never ordered. I spent hours on the phone on hold starting the minute I noticed the charge. I have 9 credit cards and 4 bank accounts with Debit cards. I have no need for a card that cost this much with no credit value and fees for loading cash on it. I truly believe they pulled my information from a credit card I was applying for to consolidate my other cards; they pulled this information and placed it in a bogus prepaid card application. I am 42 years old and have been in the Air Force for 24 years. I do not order anything without reading all the terms and agreements first. The main point is; if anybody ever approached you on the street or phone and tried to sell you this card you would not buy it. You are paying for a card that has no value, especially if you already have a bank checking account with a debit card. The individuals at the company are rude if and when you can contact them and will not offer a refund. The use caned cut and paste answers trying to push you off to the major credit card companies, Visa and MasterCard. They encourage you to contact the police and fill out fraud forms. They committed the fraud and they want you to report yourself? Please investigate this company, they are bad news and it is obvious they are in business to rip off the public. Thank you so much.

Complaint Summary

Unauthorized withdrawl from my bank account of $159.95 - Worthless Debit Card
Resolution Sought

Refund me my $159.95 as soon as possible. I would also like to see thier practice of unauthorized withdrawls come to an end for all the poor people I read about who get taken by this scam.

Company's Response
Initial Response - Posted 1-17-2006

We strongly disagree that this was an unauthorized transaction. Consumers are required to fill in ABA/Routing numbers, checking account numbers, social security numbers and names. Our Websites are very clear that $159.95 will be deducted from the consumer bank account. This statement is not buried in a page long Terms and Conditions. Our Websites states, in very simple terms, that this is NOT a credit card but a debit card. Customers can load their own funds onto the debit cards and use them wherever Visa Mastercard is accepted. All the language and set up on our websites have been approved by Visa and Mastercard, which have very stringent security parameters. We apologize for the difficulty this individual had in dealing with customer service and as EDebitPay is very concerned with the appearance of impropriety, we are issuing a courtesy refund in the amount of $159.95.

Initial Response Summary

Courtesy refund for $159.95 on 1/17/06.

I appreciate the quick response from the company. I am looking for the refund and would like to know if it is coming in the mail or if it is going to be credited back to my account? I am very thankful for the services of the BBB and the company to take care of my complaint. Most of the complaints generated are due to the fact they are entering their information and going to the second page without knowing it is a commitment. This is deciptive in a way; Not everybody is "Internet Savy" - A scam is a scam no matter how you slice it. Regardless of what you agree to via button pushing; if you don't want it, you don't want it? I don't remember ever filling out their application.

Refund

AUTHOR: Ellen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 15, 2006

An update on my last report. I have since received my money back from Edebit Pay. I did have to close out my old account and open a new one. I would suggest this to everyone that this has happened to. They still have your information, and they will debit your account again. After my first filing with the BBB of California, it seemed everyone started to file. There were so many complaints against this company. The BBB does let you know that you must be weary of what is going on. EDebits web site is very misleading. So beware all you enter their site. Suggestion to all, DON'T enter any banking information on any web site that you do not know who or what it is. Hopefully the federal trade commission will get involved with this company.

POSTED: Saturday, January 07, 2006

I am assuming if you catch the transaction within the first 24 hours it can be sent back. My bank is pretty good about this. I spent an hour at the bank they returned the transaction and the bank stopped all my overdraft fees... What I did was printed out one of the complaints on here and took it to the bank and said it is happening to alot of people and I want my money back. Within 5 minutes she had the transaction stopped and within 24 hours my account was back to normal. I was thinking of changing banks but after this I think I will stick with citizens.

I was going in not taking no as an answer. They can rebut the transaction.

Good Luck all I hope everyone gets their money back.

A comment on a rebutal from Vicki from Edebit, Hollywood, CA I just hope that you can sleep with yourself at night. You are just as bad as the company. You are taking money from people fraudulently.

AUTHOR: Ellen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 18, 2005

I've read the rebuttal from Vicki supposedly from EdebitPay, Hollywood, CA. I wonder if she sleeps at night. Why would she even think that anyone would agree to pay $159.95 for a prepaid credit card. I can let you know that I never agreed to this.

If we did agree to it then we wouldn't be so upset about you taking that much money from us. You say that you have three days to cancel and get a full refund, but you don't take the money out right away. You wait at least 6 days to take the money out. That way, no one will ever get a refund because they don't even know that this is happening. You can have all the empathy that you want. I just hope that you can sleep with yourself at night. You are just as bad as the company. You are taking money from people fraudulently. I have filed a police report, your company being the one that is reported as fraudulent and misleading information. Your company has been reported to the FTC. I reported you, but there is already a case against a company, that also goes, guess what, by EdebitPay. So you see, whatever you choose to believe because you need the job, or you just like ripping people off, the company you work for is scamming people, as well as anyone who works for them. I do hope that you read this. I will enjoy reading your rebuttal on this. I don't care if it is just $159.95, to be that's alot, that's my gas bill. I will take this to court if I have too. I told the police that I will prosecute. If might not be a felony for just one person, but add it all up, and see what you get. So if anyone wants to join me on this little adventure, just say the word. I'll get it going.

An update on my situation. Still have not received a refund, but right now that is not what is important, well it is, but shutting this business down is more important. I went to the bank today and filed my dispute after making a police report of theft, fraudulent acitivity on my account by the above company. The police asked me if I wanted to prosecute, I told them I did. I also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau in CA. I have a case # from the Federal Trade Commission. Everyone who has been ripped off by this company, needs to file a complain with the Federal Trade Commission. The more people who do, the better chance of getting our money back and shutting them down. People talk about what to do, but they don't follow through with it. Please everyone needs to do this. Lets stop them from ripping off other people.
