I signed up for eHarmony, and paid the 6 month rate as it was the best deal. The only choice I had to register was to pay the amount in full, and then be defaulted to auto-renewal.
After a couple of months of receiving nothing by `matches' from men who were 15 to 20 years older than me, I stopped using the site. I made a point of figuring out how to cancel the auto-renewal, as I definitely did not want to be charged again for a useless service. I am university educated, and should be smart enough to cancel an online subscription. Apparently not.
Today I received my credit card statement, and found a $200 for auto-renewal for eHarmony. I was so angry, I telephoned the company - immediately. The rep said that my auto-renewal did not go through - this is a common problem, and the instructions provided apparently tell you that it is necessary to double check that it went through.
Regardless of the fact that I am clearly not the only one who was not successful cancelling my subscription - and that I clearly no longer wanted anything to do with the service - they would not refund me.
She offered a reduced rate - which I declined, and she then said that that offer would now be off the table. I had to communicate with another department, and it would be up to them. I am waiting their response.
