Even though I cancelled subscription, my checking account was debited their renewal charge anyway. I called to correct the issue and was told they could only refund two months of the subscription instead of the full amount. I expressed that this was unacceptable and was put on hold again. Eventually, they refunded the full amount but told me it would take 7-10 days. Scam, scam, scam.

EHarmony not only turned out to be a complete waste of time but a headache in terms of surprise charges and having to play a stupid game of trying to get my money back. Anyone reading this should stay away from this company. Know that their goal is to collect your billing information and then do everything they can to simply charge on your account as many times as they can. The purpose of bringing finding relationships is nothing but a ruse to get your account info.

Will participate in Class Action Lawsuit

AUTHOR: SBrown - ()

POSTED: Thursday, April 04, 2013

I had the exact same experience with eharmony.  I signed up on March 3, 2013 and immediately turned off the auto-renew.  I printed the screen shot of confirmation.  On April 4, I noticed a new charge of $49.95 and contacted "customer service".  I received the run around from Shelly and Hugo claiming that I had to escalate the "request" for refund (which isn't a request but a demand).  They claimed not to see where I had turned off auto-renew and said the best they could do was turn it off for next month.  What a scam.  I am prepared to participate in any class action suit because this company smells.  I suspect the total amount involved in this is well over $10 million.

Nobody should provide any payment details to eharmony, ever.  Something is very wrong with this bunch.

Class Action Suit Should Be Filed

AUTHOR: feeling litigious - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, April 06, 2012

I too had the same issue with this company.  Contray to some of the unfortunate victims of this company, I signed up for a discounted trial of this service.  Upon signing up, I immediately went to the appropriate section of the site and deactivated the automatic renewal option.  In addition, I signed up using a card that would expire several months prior to the automatic renewal.  This was purposely done because I had a feeling that they might try to pull a fast one.  The page informed me the automatic renewal would not take place and that my subscription would end April 4, 2012.

Lo and behold April 5, 2012 I get an email stating my subscription has been automatically renewed, when I specifically selected that it not be SEVERAL months prior and they actually charged the card when the card expired in February!  That right they fraudulently processed a charge after I cancelled automatic renewal and processed a card that had been expired for months!!!!

I immediately contacted EHarmony at 800-951-2023, told them I was highly upset that they processed a charge on my account after I disabled the automatic renewal, pointed out that even after getting the notice of automatic renewal I went in and saw that the automatic renewal had been enabled by them again, ended the automatic renewal again and upon calling them with them on the phone logged back into the account and found that once again after receiving the notice that it would not be automatically renewed a second time found the account stated it was set for automatic renewal!  Mind you I actually printed the page stating the account would not automatically renew and would end on the date they provided and had it in hand while on the phone with them.  Didn't share that bit of information with them because I felt it would be a wonderful blow to them in court if a lawsuit had to be filed.

They attempted to say they could not refund the charge that they just processed today.  I pointed out that I am in the legal field, that they committed electronic fraud by processing a payment on an expired card, that I specifically used an expired card out of concern that they might try to pull this very stunt, and that they needed to refund my money or I would be filing a lawsuit.  While on hold, I contacted a collegue of mine and told him to get ready if the matter was not resolved.  Suddenly they were able to refund the charge in 7 to 10 days and closed the account.  I got a confirmation number and required an email confirmation of the refund transaction, which I have.

End result, do not sign up for this service.  If you do disable the automatic renewal and print the page that says the automatic renewal has been cancelled, the date the susbscription with end and if possible use a card that can only be charged if you have money in the account, example a prepaid debit card.  Keep your paperwork handy.  I smell a class action lawsuit coming if it hasn't already been filed.
