I have a fair amount of experience in sales, but I have never been involved with a more unprofessional and shady orginization than EMG.  In my short time there I was very commited to being an asset to the company. I was told to believe that the company was all about helping merchants and putting them in better situations. Immediatly I encountered senior sales reps that bragged about how they scammed merchants into buying equipment when it really wasnt needed. Also, when I began to ask questions about products, services, and just the company in general I was told to shut up and make my required 125 phone calls per day.   Once I got appointments to go in front of merchants and discuss our services I was forced into having the manager to come along and take the lead. I was at the mercy of his judgement if the accounts were even worth his time, and when they were he was so aggresive in pushing equipment that he lost every potential sale I may have had in the first 3 WEEKS!!!!   Back at the office, as I said, the atmosphere was completely unprofessional. I was belittled and swore at in front of the entire office on several occasions. All I wanted was Information about the compnay and the service we could offer to our customers. They're reluctance to reveal any of this information, even to an employee, proves this compnay is a giant scam. I would not suggest working for them or doing any kind of business with them.

#2 UPDATE Employee

I'm Asking Questions, Too

AUTHOR: Jen - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, April 22, 2012

I just started with Eliot Management Group about 2 weeks ago, and so far things have been ok, but there have been a lot of red flags going up more and more lately that have me questioning practices.

Unlike the others here, my training was paid- $70 a day for 5 days before taxes.  All in all, I earned about $300, which I really needed.

My first appointment is tomorrow afternoon (23 April) and I'm not sure if I'll be attending.  I've been doing a lot of research about EMG the last couple of days, and what I'm finding is not boding well.

My plan is to talk to my DSM tomorrow morning and then by the time that's over I should know if I'll stick with the company or not.  Honestly, though... I'm thinking I probably won't be finishing out my day tomorrow.

I will post an update as to what happens with details concerning how the conversation with my DSM goes.

Wish me luck!

Your Employment

Being a former employee of over two years with the same company, I understand how you feel. The company, Eliot Management Group has merged or was bought up by First American Payment Systems, and is now under the guidelines of that company. Check those paychecks boys and girls, and look at who is signing them. Eleven Managers no longer working with the company should be your biggest clue. When I started with the company, I went through a one week unpaid training program, learning about the EMG Way of doing business, before I ever made a single sales call. I came in every morning at 8am sharp, made the calls, and set a few appointments to go on. Since you do not get paid for any training by this company, strictly commissions only, my manager took me on these appointment as I sat and watch them create a absolute mess with what I saw a simple approach to doing business. All the manager talked about was how they need a new terminal, for the one they had was "out of date" and needed to be replaced right away. You see, my manager was also hired from outside the company, and had no background about this type of business at all. I believe they owned a business, so did I once. Several of my fellow employees, to which I asked help from, told me that they were not the boss, and to see them about all of my questions, for they didn't wish to interfere with how I was being trained. Well since things change in the office from day to day, I came to understand why I was told this. After being there for a while, and seeing what was going on around me, I got the basic clue and started to sign a few merchants, along with earning a few dollars, so I could show up to work every day, and started to see what was really going on within the walls of this company first hand. This company waste more time and energy with the most redundant of task. From the Monday sales call, with the CEO, hello.talk about what earns your employees money Ron, not the dumbass factoids and have you heard. A rep that is struggling to make a living in your company is not going to give one ounce of care to the things you talk about each Monday afternoon, if all you do is take the income away from them for showing up to work, and doing it the EMG way. Oh, and the daily meeting in the morning, with all of the people working in training and through the corporate office, could there be something to talk about besides how many calls we make each day, and what the office quotas are?? That would also inspire your team a whole lot better too, and make sure that they are trained and up to date on the industry changes that are going on, so they dont go out and misrepresent themselves. The real truth is in the pudding. EMG is not the company that they claim to be when they interview you. They have a very large revolving door in most of the offices they have established, and will continue to do so, along with reaping in the money from what they call orphan accounts, and continue to work out side of the labor laws in most of the states that they have offices in, by not paying employees for the training, and office time that they are made to serve. Find somewhere else to work and make a career, for the world of merchant services will be better served if EMG would just go away, which is what First American has in plan for them.
