My 77 year old mother was called by a company who convinced her they were calling from Cadillac to sell her an extended warranty for her vehicle which was still under factory warranty.  She bought it and as soon as I got back to town and found about it, we cancelled it.  A full refund was due and we were told it would take 6-8 weeks to reach us.  That was three months  and many phone calls ago.  Customer Service who claims to be in St. Louis is manned by a handful of polite but competely uninformed women and one supervisor named David Chandler

 (888-571-3171).

  A check would be sent.

I would be called with a tracking number

Don't know if a check has been sent

Only the accounting department has that information

The accounting department cannot be reached by phone

  An email has been sent

Waiting for a reply to the email to the accounting department

The refund amount has been processed.

  A check has been sent

When no check was received we began again:

Will have to find out from accounting about a tracking number

Sent an email to accounting about a tracking number

  There is no tracking number

The batch of checks sent on the day yours was sent were all sent without tracking numbers

No reason known why some checks are sent without tracking numbers, only accounting knows

This was actually the second check you were sent, there was an initial refund check sent 10 days previous

Tracking number on this heretofore unmentioned check unknown

Correction, no initial check sent 10 days previously and no one ever told you there had been one.

It takes 30 days before a check can be declared lost, call back

I have never been called by anyone from customer service despite repeated assurances I would be

It is my belief that there is no check and never will be, at least not until the company decides it is easier for them to pay than to not pay.  To this end I have filed a complaing with the BBB, and am in the process of also filing a complaint with my State Attorney General, any and all Consumer Fraud services, the FTC and any other forum I can find.

Hi Volree – our records show that the company that sold you the contract did send you a refund, and that you received and cashed this refund check. On their behalf, we do apologize for the error. Enterprise Financial Group supplies vehicle service contracts through a number of partners – when we receive any feedback from customers, we act quickly to ensure everything is taken care of. Thank you again for your feedback. – Alex Drasil, VSC Claims Services Director

I actually received my refund check today, March 30,2014.  After being told repeatedly that the check had been mailed March 17 (the day the company received my official complaint via the BBB), I looked at the postmark which was March 24.  What I would take from this if anyone else has a similar problem is that the company will grudgingly refund monies they owe if you make enough noise.  I believe that the BBB complaint, combined with the threat (and it was only just a threat because I had been on vacation and not had the opportunity to carry it out) of involving my State Attorney General, the FTC and any and all consumer fraud forums/offices I could find was what moved them to actually issue a refund.  Nice to know they respond if you make enough noise, unfortunate that they can't just do the right thing without all the BS.

Hello,

My name is Alex Drasil and I am the VSC Claims Services Director at EFG Companies. We came across your post and have been working on trying to find your mother’s information through the company who sold her the contract, but aren’t having any luck without a name or contract number.

Would you mind contacting me directly with this information so that I can make sure this is resolved as quickly as possible? My phone number is 800-527-1984 Ext. 8337, and my email address is adrasil@efgusa.com. I look forward to speaking with you, and helping your mother with her contract cancellation.

Thank you,
Alex
