I rented a car from the Enterprise Rent A Car location at 63 N Lowry St, Smyrna TN 37167 on Monday 24th March at 1:30 pm. I was served by a representative named Andrea Lawson, who was alone at that time in the location helping customers and multi-tasking and appearing very busy. While she was helping me with my rental car and entering my information, she kept answering all the calls she received while I kept waiting for her to finish her calls and provide me with a car.

I had to remind her that I have been waiting for long and she needs to help me first since I was already present there. I told her it was getting late for me and that I had to get back to work. She finally took the car keys and took me to car. She did a very quick inspection and told me to sign the paperwork. I saw that she had already marked that I’m declining insurance and did not even ask me if I would like to buy insurance. She certainly seemed to be in a hurry. I got inside the car and could see that the car had not been cleaned –there was a glass bottle under the driver’s seat and a lot of filth both inside the car and the trunk.

When the keys were returned on Mar 28th afternoon the Enterprise employee Mitch Holmes while doing an inspection mentioned 2 vertical very small damages (1/2 inch damage) in the front of the car (hood). These were very small and un-thinkable to seem like some damage that could have been caught while the car was inspected. According to me more seemed like the crack on the edge due to possibly normal wear and tear.

It was certainly not due to the car hitting a curb, because the front surface was very smooth with no indication of something scraping the car, there was no dent as well. It is impossible that it was due to car hitting something and occurred while in my possession. Anyway I denied fraudulent claim and told him that I was not going to accept it. To me it was clear that I was being thrust upon the damage and put the repair cost to me even though it was not responsible for it.

However the representative said that since the damage was not noted on the contract when I rented it, I would have to own it. I told him that I wanted to file the complaint with Enterprise and he told me that he would be the one to whom the complaint would come to if I were to file one. He would decide on it. I really felt helpless that I could not even file a complaint on this. I persisted that I wanted to still file it and I was provided the general customer care phone number from the Enterprise rent a car website.

I have decided to file a complaint with the Tennessee government office of the Attorney general and Reporter. Also I’m surprised to find out about similar complaints on the internet (just googled). Infact I found an interesting website about an attorney firm in Florida esp handling “Enterprise Rent A Car complains”…..see below...makes me feel that many such consumers have faced the same situation.

I really disgusted and do not want to be ripped off in this manner for this fraud and I’m hoping that I do not have my credit rating affected, if I do not pay (still have not received the damage repair cost) the bill. I'm exploring all options; however please let me know if you have any suggestions or if you can help in anyway.
